President Xi has quarantined 56 million Chinese and ordered a cancellation of New Year travel tours, Hong Kong has declared an emergency and it is likely the WHO will do the same in the next few days. Passenger numbers into and out of Asia will collapse if this continues in the near term. This is likely to be a SAR level event for the airline industry.

A greater headache at the moment is ongoing Airbus delays. NEO program is way behind at the moment, 4-6 months and not improving. AB have not made any inroads on this in the last year and are now assisting some carriers leasing interim aircraft.

There is a chance the fleet numbers will go backwards as the delays go into next year and some aircraft go off lease or to cargo with no replacement ready yet.

I think that is already built into their planning with the one aircraft coming in August and the second not until just before Christmas. I believe the original plan was to take 4 aircraft in the second half of CY 2020.

Has anyone here sitting in the hold file for more than a year been given a start date yet? Correct me if I'm wrong, but I believe all internal applicants have been given start dates

Yes, a few still from late 2017/early 2018 still on the HF that have done their QANTAS Medical and are just awaiting a start date. So some have been on it for around 2 years!
Last information was looking at around May due to the close of NZ back in Nov, which pushed back the early 2020 start dates as written in the late 2019 EOI. These later applicants have just got their HF notifications...

The last training that was conducted onto the 320s prior to the NZ crew shuffles was 1 person in Aug 2018 and prior to that Mar 2018 going off the seniority listing, so not a lot was happening but could be a few more on there by now.

About to get real interesting with most Chinese carriers basically invoking force majeure and telling their expat pilot force to pack up, go home and good luck , don’t call us we’ll call you !
Wonder how this will affect the recruiting talent pool here in Oz if at all ?

As the main 4 here don’t hold expat returns in high regard, essentially zero.

You might have some luck with one of the offshoots of the big four based in the far west if that’s your thing.

Be better probably going to Vietnam etc.

What makes you say that. Virgin has hired a number of DECs on the 737 recently. Pretty sure they would of been expats.

wheels_down 4th Feb 2020 03:49

What a DEC contracted gig to Virgin Kiwi?

The only jobs for those EK drivers itching to get back is ****ty old Fokker gigs out west.

East Coast main line ops is reserved for those Rexy, GA or Ansett peeps.

I heard from Jetstar HR recently that an announcement is going to drop affecting recruitment, but haven't seen anything yet on the JQ, QF, or ASX websites. Could those in the know please post on here when the announcement drops? Thanks

Ollie Onion 10th Feb 2020 03:20

I assume that recruitment will be knocked on the head at Jetstar, 787’s leaving the business, general downturn we were seeing prior to the Virus scare and now the travel restrictions out of Asia are like a perfect storm.

Recruitment interviews? Internal applicants I’m guessing?

DJ36 10th Feb 2020 05:17

You would be correct!

DJ36 10th Feb 2020 05:38

Qantas Mainline internal applications are supposedly also opening this week. Not sure if externals will follow?

kaz890 10th Feb 2020 20:42

Just to be clear- Are these assessment days for JQ or QF?

DJ36 10th Feb 2020 21:41

They are for JQ.

Do you mind if I ask where you're getting your information?

DJ36 10th Feb 2020 23:43

I personally know a couple of people interviewing this week :ok:

kaz890 21st Feb 2020 19:02

I guess the news is out, there will be a hiring freeze until the coronavirus issue gets resolved :(
