But the 146 crew won't be able to tell everyone they are four engine jet pilots now? |
It is a terrific little jet, the Cobham guys/gals will enjoy flying it.
Much better than the Scruggs wonder jet! |
146 a Jet?
ha! Its all fan. And no reverse. Give me some Jt8 goodness with clamshells any day over a quadrapuff! But to keep it on topic, what are the plans for the Embryo? I have heard Barrow Island, but why? |
Perth to Barrow charter
Australian Aviation |
So just the one? Then I guess only a select few will be endorsed and everyone else can admire from the cockpit of the gas chamber.
Nice article in Australian Aviation although I'm pretty sure Cobham/National Jet have been flying to Barrow for well over a decade |
How come you doods keep posting links to articles that need a subscription to access?
|
It's a conspiracy to stop you from reading them,of course !
|
mmmmm, ok, might think about that for a bit. Don't want to get a complex

I've always been told that these mining contracts are so lean that you could never make money on them with the likes of an Eject. Hence the prevalence of cheap old F-100s 146s.
So how does Cobham do it yet others can't? Sounds like they're a pretty organised outfit they're running there. |
you get what you pay for
I've always been told that these mining contracts are so lean that you could never make money on them with the likes of an Eject. If an E-jet was the preferred aircraft (which is rumoured to be the case), then Cobham would have to absorb the cost of adding the type to the AOC plus the inherent costs attributable to diseconomies of scale, a distinct competitive disadvantage compared with Virgin and Airnorth. Certainly, Airnorth would seem likely to benefit from the fleet addition and the attendant business expansion while having nowhere near the overheads of Cobham, so the floor must have been strewn with pencil shavings... :E Stay Alive, |
So how does Cobham do it yet others can't? Mining contract work is a bit of a chess game. The miners will play everybody off each other differently to get what they want. |
Unlike National Jet, Cobham have never been in the business of tendering for contracts that don't earn a return for their shareholders. If they started now it would be a major change in philosophy for them.
|
big call
AerocatS2A, that's a big call! But then, I guess cost plus $1 would meet that criterion :E
|
So many comments based on so little real knowledge or information.
Do some research...Cobham plc ? Reports and Presentations Archive Most fleets start as one aircraft. I believe they will have more by the end of 2015. |
You should apply, Iccy. Join the boys on the BIG ones. :E
|
Icarus,
I'll play! What does the linked presentation tell me about the contract on which the E190 is to be employed? |
Your highness.
If you look deeper into the cobham site you will find this http://www.cobham.com/about-cobham/m...-aircraft.aspx The first aircraft is always the hardest to get. Everything after that is incrementally easier, but also dependent on contracts. |
The BIG question is...does it have Cost index?? :}
