The United States of Brisbane

It’s pretty pathetic that QF are running twenty-year old 330s operated by foreign cabin crew across the Pacific all while the Americans are increasing to daily San Fran and 3-weekly LA services on next-to-new 787s.

Good news for Brissy pax at least.

The additional flights from LAX will make it the largest carrier between the US and Brisbane
.

There are three aeroplanes optimised for long haul. The 330 isn’t one of them.

Doesn't matter. Jetconnect.

"Some people think that moving Qantas jobs offshore is un-Australian. Not if it's New Zulland, which is like Aussie. At half the price."

Aren’t the American crew’s also ‘foreign’?

Whilst I’m not going to disagree with you on the appropriateness of the 330 on the BNE-LAX route, the oldest aircraft that does it is only a bit over 13 years old.

It’s the standard these days across many countries, many carriers have now built the cost base around the cheap crewing model, which is all about reducing cost, exploit regulatory loopholes, optimise taxes and keep crew at a distance. Norwegian was atrocious for that, Ryanair is another. Locally we have Jetstar International playing in that space, you fly from Sydney to Honolulu, the crew in the cabin serving you will likely be from Thailand, Indonesia, Japan. Depends how far one wishes to push the boundaries with local employment and immigration laws, I recall Norwegian ran into some trouble with the Americans who started having a look at its dozen odd crewing subsidiaries across its many AOCs. They quickly started hiring a whole heap of American based crews.

The model could be justified by operating routes to say Japan or Thailand, in which a local based crew is needed due to the language requirement. But that isn’t the intention generally.

Your next flight could have cabin crew from a mixture of nations, on a whole range of different agreements working for all sorts of subsidiaries, all on different rates of pay.

I flew LAX - BNE on the 330 in economy about 6 months ago. Was appalled to see the "crew rest" set up. The cabin crew put cushions on about 3 Rows of the economy class seats and had curtains blocking it. Appalling. It appeared that all of the cabin crew were kiwis. Shame on quantasss.

Just so you know, there is no 'u', and only one 's', in Qantas.

What an embarrassment from the so called national carrier. American or Delta hasn't ramped up yet, sorry excuse of an airline. They are about to be taught a very expensive lesson.

QANTAS is a betrayal to our nation with ANZAC-like myths of safety & Aussie ownership. It should be pumping with the predicable uptick in post-COVID aviation demand . It should be pumping with the training of thousands of Australians within the aviation industry. It’s a national disgrace in underperformance considering it’s corporate privilege.

Gotta say the United service when I used it was brilliant.

I’d booked SYD LAX as didn’t realise there was a BNE LAX. Tried calling and doing online but one of those days where technomology seemed to be against me. As I was flying BNE SYD to get my flight anyway thought I’d rock up at UA counter and roll the die…………

Well Fark me, hello sir, we would love to help, a bit of clicking and clacking and a little issue here and there. Sorry sir we have to charge you a fare difference, erm ok what is it? $33 bwahaha (ok maybe a little diff). Point is it was no effort and they wanted to help.

No I wasn’t flying business but yes premium E and I gotta say the product on a 12 hour journey was pretty good.

Point is now you have multiple options over 1 flight. UA all the way!

I have always found most US mainline carriers helpful when it comes to schedule changes or tweaks on my end. We had a delta connection and asked at the gate if they could move us to the earlier one, wasn’t an issue. We had storm delays at a connection point on one flight so I asked if they could re route us via somewhere else, all done no issues and no cost. I find the technology platforms used, websites and apps, especially Delta, top notch.

Executives down under have one clear task, to rip as much revenue from every single soul as they can. They will only look after you if one has a whinge and it makes the local newspaper. Expect a phone call within minutes to resolve.

You’re assuming anyone in management cares.

QANTAS has become a health insurance/ car insurance/ frequent flyer scheme with a few aircraft attached. They’re only leftover as a carrot to dangle in front of the customers of these schemes to inspire them that they might, one day, get that business class flight to London (no other European ports available) with their points upgrade.

The aviation side of the mainline business has been left to rot for a good couple of decades now.

Spot on there!
Trying to milk a $ out of anything they can but i guess when the guy that runs it likes to have an opinion on everything that should be none of his business including telling premiers & prime ministers how they should do their job whilst at the same time shutting down anyone who tries to criticise him.
He is a classic example of someone who cant remember where he came from i.e 1 of the slummiest suburbs in a far away land.
