I suspect the ‘operating crew’ will be ‘well rested’ prior to departing JFK, versus simulating the trauma of the outbound sector and slip prior to the return sector. ‘Research’ is code for ‘PR junket’. It is research for how to design an inflight experience - not on the human health toll crew will endure...
They're having over 300hr off before departing after paxing over. Not joking.
Has anyone yet asked the ole original expat SIA 340 crew if they are keeling over?
FFS yes they are breaking records with this Sunrise but it’s not really new... SQ what is it 18:45 flight time? 21 is not that much of a step up.
Fight to make sure the crew compliment is correct, it’s gunna happen if the machine can do it.

Whilst I think this is nothing but a media stunt and from the recent news articles over today and yesterday I even more strongly believe that, your comment regarding the crew's rest period prior to the flight is very misleading.
The crew positioning the aircraft from Paine via to JFK do get a substantial break but the 4 crew that are actually operating out of JFK have had the standard rest of a normal JFK pattern. The crew that positioned the flight are paxng home on said service. Check your facts.

Doesn’t matter how you try to sell fake research.
What you are doing is not indicative of what line pilots will be rostered to do.
The three “research” flights are marketing bull****. No more, no less.

The press is making out it is a big never before happened event.
Yes ideed they are!!..possible Chairmans club memberships at stake here....however it is no longer an 'Event' when it is rostered continually!, and the cumulative effects are not known, scientifically......
Maybe the research is known 'In house'....can it be subpoaenad?....dunno...is it what was signed up for?...well....perhaps not, but if the tech exists to be able to conduct such flights...are you exected to comply?....Or is it just another step towards automating everything?
As in, crew are too expensive.....we can do 20+ hours....but we need further aoutomation..?

I think we all know Joe public purchases based on $
$ are why LCC's thrive
Joe Public cares about the guys up front, until such time the guys and gals upfront cost them $ when data uplinks are less than $ to have crew operating...it'll be like 'self driving" cars"....
No thanks (Me)......as LCC Consumers...they'll take $ over real experience.........

The crew departed Brisbane on the QF 15 on Wednesday, operating (not paxing) to LAX and transited LAX to pax to JFK on the same aircraft.
They have about 55 hours in JFK before departing for Sydney.
This was the closest they could get to simulating an operation direct to JFK followed by a return to Sydney.
Not commenting on the validity or otherwise, just correcting an incorrect post.

The crew departed BNE for LAX on Wednesday and pax’d straight through to JFK
I’d also be interested to see if they are doing bloodwork on the crews to test a range of metabolic parameters e.g. cortisol, glucose, insulin etc. I doubt it.

Junket Flight
Just saw Kochie on channel 7 reporting on the Junket PR flight. Sorry cough cough “research junket” or is that “PR Research junket ”. Was a lovely back slapping love fest. The flight had 15 passengers on board and had special catering and juices tailored for the flight. How lovely.
Kochie was upset that passengers are not to be served alcohol so as not to interfere with their rest.
Do you think they will get a chance to stretch out with 15 people on board? The air filters are really going to be maxed out.
This is utter bullsh&$ And does not remotely resemble any form of science. To the angels posting on here that work 9-5 and rarely lose a nights sleep, It’s not a pay issue primarily . It’s a long term health issue. It may come as a shock but pilots actually have to Land the jet at the end of a shockingly long sector. Haven’t even touched on multiple circadian rhythm changes or cosmic radiation. Just shows how poorly constructed the justification is and the contempt for crew health.

Just take it for what it is - good publicity for Qantas.
Ignore the rest. It will help you sleep better.
