QANTAS and Air New Zealand Domestic codeshares
Trans-Tasman rivals Air NZ and Qantas announce codeshare agreement on domestic services
Can’t help but wonder if this is just the beginning... do QF really need J* regional anymore? I gather they’re still running at a loss.

Actually this could work nicely, Air NZ gets to pullout of as many regional domestic markets as it likes now and can codeshare on any Jetstar regional routes that may pop up as a result. I would say Virgin may be a little concerned as they do a lot of code sharing with Air NZ in Australia and may have just lost this market share to Qantas.

Bassicly NZ is now going after VA.

Pretty excited about flying to Dunedin from Auckland now...
NZ sets the fare price.
JQ undercut by $10
QF match in the same region as both...
WATCH ticket prices rise domestically in New Zealand! AirNZ have already announced in the latest Australian Aviation that they are getting around 5% more revenue for the same number of flights... They have already started ripping off the public of NZ and now QF is joining the charge.

Anyway, I agree this is likely a move to block Virgin... on both sides of the ditch. QF picks up all of Air NZ's connections while also making it that much harder for Virgin/Tiger to get a foothold in the NZ Domestic market.
Nice move. Virgin try and build a virtual airline.
Air NZ goes out and builds a virtual monopoly.
Trans Tasman flights are so frequent, there won’t be a need to coordinate schedules or codeshare across the Tasman.
How incompetent do you have to be JB?! Tiger isn’t a threat, its a mess...

Most likely VA will be gone from the New Zealand market within the next 12months - they now have no regional New Zealand feed.

Couple this with the the fact that punters are leaving VA on the transcontinental route due to reduction in the 330 flying. And the tiger debacle.. um anyone steering this ship!?
A lot of above posters slamming Virgin yet looking at past posts are very pro Red Rat. Alan would be most proud of you.
I’ve been a Platinum Virgin members for 2 years now. It’s 5 star treatment all the way. The staff are brilliant, the seats and product are sensational. It’s world class top notch what they are dishing out on plates and product. I never got this on QF/NZ.
NZ feed is minimal. Australian feed is critical. How much have NZ paid QF for this setup? They didn’t have a choice, they were screwed without Aussie feed.

Virgin have no one to blame for this happening than themselves. We should have two strong competitors in the country but we have one profitable airline and one circus act... seriously, what is it now... 7 years without a profit (excluding what was it this year, first half, a couple of million off billions in revenue)... the MRB is a one person circus act, the "indestructible Mess-a-mo"... bought SkyWest then got rid of most of the aeroplanes. Bought Tiger and completely stuffed up the 737 and DPS operations, spent money like a drunken sailor and very little to show for it in way of returns... 777 across the Pacific apparently loses money, Australian DOM loses money, regional loses money, presumably now Tasman will lose money. This would have to be the longest string of bad decisions in aviation history (well, OK, maybe not, there was always Pan Am) but what the hell gives.
Idiots being promoted over competent people, people from Air NZ have been heard to comment that it wasn't just the profit it was the expectation that they (NZ) were to jump through hoops if VA had a problem but if NZ had a diversion or something they literally got to the point of just giving their passengers to QF anyway, rather than have them spend 3 hours wandering between NZ and VA counters while VA obfuscate acceptance of FIMs and other standard industry processes. A company that's losing money hand over fist can't even get it's act together to take revenue handed to them on a platter by a partner airline.
Not commenting on VA management is laughable on this forum. There are some great people that work for VA, their crew are really good, but the regime in power is hopeless, absolutely hopeless.
You couldn't write this stuff... it makes it all the more funny that the MRB has introduced lavish ads while he's been there and two of them were based on music used in... you guessed it... Pan Am ads...

Also, there seems to be a lot of Qantas and AirNZ fan boys on here - proud of their government run airlines.

I wish that Virgin was doing better as Australia really needs two airlines. It's not a bad product but I echo the statements of other posters. There is a madman at the helm that doesn't know what he is doing!
Seriously what the hell is the board waiting for? 7 years of no profit and the man still has a job.
Obviously it's not a business that they are running....

Followed by the taking of ones bat and ball and leaving then making his raison d'etre at the new outfit to get back at the old company, not to make the new one a better business.
I just fear for all those hard workers and decent people that are hanging on a string... seriously, you could toss out nearly all of the management tomorrow and the place would probably run better and no one would notice except for a drastic reduction in the parroting of weasel words in every single unnecessary meeting.
