Yeah but how many 146 drivers, who aren't already employed as 146 drivers, want to fly a 146 on night freight?
Well all the boys and girls in Adelaide, Melbourne and Brisbane are only doing night freight since the loss of the Santos contract.

Probably a few in the West who would like to move East?

Don't fly then, drive for Uber or Yellow Cabs...pick your own hours too!

Are any of the Convairs still flying?

Very experienced management team running Pionair, I wish them all the best.

At least one Convair (VH-PDW) is still flying. It was in Darwin last week before heading back to Cairns.

Yep they are. So they're not going to be jumping ship anytime soon unless they think they're in danger of being pushed and I think Cobham may have sucked up any local 146 experience in the past couple of years.

So isn't one of those 146-200's a QC ?

If so, with most freight being moved Mon-Thu evenings, will that mean they will offer aircraft for passenger charter Fri-Sun ?

Wonder if a 146-200 with approx. 84 seats would be cheaper than an 80 seater F70 to charter ?

If so, they could be on a winner, as huge demand for such on Fri & Sun's.

Just wondering - initial reports said 146 and 737-300 but no discussion of who will operate the 73-3??

Apologies if I've missed something along the way.

Wonder what type of progression they are referring to?

How can Ansett justify 35.5k for a 146 endorsement on a very old depreciated sim? The cost of a course is usually, in a big part, driven by the usage costs for the sim. The newer the sim the more expensive it is and the more it costs to use it.

The 146 sim is old and been paid for about 100 times over so how they can charge an over the top amount is beyond me, the coursework IP costs shouldn't be too excessive.

If it replicates a 146 properly wouldn't it be costing a heap in maintenance and down time?

Good point! Though the virtual engine changes are probably quicker!

I wonder if they have a supply of dirty socks to pump the scent into the sim can during a session

Whose behind it

So whose the management team behind this?
Is it a reincarnation of Barrier?

Maybe they have adopted the industry practice of placing a 'management' fee' on top of the actual cost, thereby taking what should be a cost (training) over into the revenue column (stealing out of your back pocket).

I think you may be misunderstanding their (Ansett Aviation Training's) business model. Training revenue forms the vast majority of their income - that's the basis for their business. They can charge whatever they think will maximise their profit - nothing wrong with it, they are not giving charity. If the market deems their rate too high, they will go elsewhere. The fact that there is no simple 'elsewhere' for a 146 rating on a CASA license is probably justification enough for what may seem like a high price.

If you don't like the Ansett rates simply go somewhere else. Free market>>like jobs, if you don't like the pay and conditions then choose another employer

Where else do you go for a 146 rating? Not that it matters to me, I already have one.
