The advertisement is likely a formality, it is likely that Westwing will buy the "AOC" and take over two Dashes.

Oh, Anyone notice the media contacts on the last line of this press release ? Of course nothing wrong with that, I think he is a good guy, but many folks seem to be morphing into WW into high positions fast. Expect WW to be operating ex Skytrans Dashes soon is what I have been told.

Rex will get the Contract. Anyone else who considers bidding would suspect that Rex has enough tentacles within CASA to ensure that anyone who crosses it might get "The Treatment" from CASA like Dominic James did.

It does not require that the Board of Rex, with their deep political and regulatory connections actually do anything illegal, the mere suspicion that they have the ability to pull strings is generally enough to stop others from competing with them.

That is the way the possibility of official corruption works on markets; "bad money drives out good".
So Sunnie, let's call a spade a spade here, are you saying that REX is corrupt or the QLD gov is corrupt???? or am I missing the point completely?

Arnold, I am not saying that Rex is corrupt. What I am saying is that the lack of transparency over what was done to Dominic James by CASA and ATSB and the Rex political donations coupled. With its Board composition has the potential to produce what the U.S. Supreme Court called. "Chilling Effect" in the sense that people will be careful not to aggravate Rex because of a fear that something bad might happen to them if they do.

I believe, for example, that it would be a very brave Rex pilot to stand up to the company after what appears to have been done to Dominic James and Karen Casey.

The effect is akin to using Hells Angels as debt collectors. Rex doesn't have to do anything illegal at all, but it sure helps to have that reputation..........whether earned or not.

Why would Westwing want another AOC ?

Surely, upgrading their existing AOC to handle Dash 8's would be way to go.

Buying an existing AOC with critical staff ? Isn't that dangerous ?

What staff need to be employed apart from chief pilot ?

CASA guarantee to make any upgrading of an AOC, addition of a complex type to an AOC, and just about everything to do with an AOC, into a major exercise.
Moving from B1900 to Dash 8 involves not just simulator programs, check and training approvals, engineering approvals, ground handling assessments, proving flights etc etc but a whole new monster called flight attendant training. This attracts the attention of CASA staff dedicated to the subject like you can not imagine if you have not seen it in action. Also CASA finally appear to be taking a dim view of operators who plagiarise other operators' manuals, so dreaming up new ones to comply with what they want this week can be a hell of a task.
Buying an AOC if it is cheap enough and can be done legally, would be a whole lot less painful. Having two AOCs is not entirely silly either. In the event of an accident or some other mishap, one can be sacrificed without losing the entire business.

Mach E, you have pretty much enunciated why the industry is spiralling down the gurgler.
Perhaps your reference to a business having an AOC and a spare to allow for CAsA intransience, illustrates the level of mistrust by industry with their regulator.
I wonder how much mining would get done in Australia if they had to go through the same rigmaroll and expense to get a new ore truck approved as we do to get an aircraft on an AOC?

Two AOCs

Buying a second AOC a in case of a problem does no good.

Dieter Siewert from Airtex had two: Airtex and one other, when the S**T hit the fan after the Canleyvale accident CASA deemed them to be one and the same even though they were totally independent under seperate corporate entities and ownership.

Result both suspended and cancelled in unison.

Legally I'm not sure it was cosher but hey what is a little thing called LAW to CASA. Safety is paramount

Machjet are touting competitive airfares for all the ports in the Cape region. Wasn't aware They were RPT and had RPT ports on AOC. Seems they moved quicker than Rex

Well my informed money is on Westwing acquiring the "Skytrans Identity with the AOC", leasing 2 of the Dashes.

Don't expect to see Skytrans on the tail though. Think Mooromba.

It is a rumor site after all.

Good luck to them.

Hardly a contest a small but proud GA operation versus a multinational company. The scratcher representing them pitched the government tenders on Skytrans behalf before resigning and immediately starting with REX! The Rex won, how many ex Skytrans staff wish him well? Not sure how he can be seen around town with so many of his former peers doing it very tough.
Think Sunfish wisdom ringing true here, they had half an attempt to help when Skytrans exited but realised they only wanted the cream, let the little guys carry the load for a few months and surprise surprise they announce bamaga. Be a good run for Jetgo to have a look at and you would see there true colours. There heart is definitely in the country, Singapore that is!
Hope David prevails again!

So what happens now with both Rex announcing Bamaga and WWA announcing the introduction of the Dash 8 from Mid March? Surely that kind of competition cannot be sustainable. I don't see the Dash 8 loads to Kowanyama being sustainable either...

It would seem to me to be an almost privately owned company.

BPA, can I ask the question? how many Australians employed by REX, and how many employed by Westwing?

PS. Nothing wrong with a SAAB that I can see.

Heard a story years ago that a certain legendary Metro pilot hung a thermometer in the cockpit while the aircraft was being refuelled in Birdsville on a spritely summers day on the run from Bris to Mt Isa. Apparently the ambient cockpit temp was recorded at 63 degrees when he returned 15 minutes later. And more recently heard that 2 pax travelling from Thargomindah to Bris got off in Charleville and grabbed a hire car to Bris as the heat in the SAAB was unbearable.

Give the punters an air conditioned option. They'll take the Dash every day of the week.

Wrong facts

Someone must have spun you a yarn, because the Rex route from Thargaminda doesn't go via Charleville.
