getting turboprops to take off before 0600 at SYD
this seems like a really good idea. Not sure why last thread was closed.
0600 must be a really busy time at SYD every morning.
By encouraging the turboprops that were scheduled to depart between say 0600 & 0700 to depart before curfew ends, would free up a lot of slots.
Really important on those bad weather days, when things get backed up & time doesn't get made up during the day & end of day flights might have to be cancelled.
Might be a stretch is flight was scheduled at 0700 but if it was scheduled at 0615, might be a huge time saving for those passengers.

Great idea. Except the passengers don't want to have to get up earlier to fly on them. So they can all go empty on their first sectors and lose money and then their jobs. There's more to Business than just getting out of the way of more important jets.....

Very few regional flights scheduled outbound just after 6am ..(any?). Most overnight at the outlying ports and head towards SYD from about 6:30am. The first outbound flights are usually these aircraft being turned around in SYD. Due to the restriction that pre-6am departures must use 16R irrespective of wind, too unreliable
Turbo-Props before 6 am
I also seem to recollect the Minister (not sure whether it was the current one or the last one) saying that the airlines would not be allowed to circumvent the curfew by replacing jets with turbo-props!
It was about the time Qantas was talking about the Q400 service direct to Gladstone from Sydney. (I've just checked the schedules to see when they depart and they are not listed - I guess people would rather travel on a jet!)

The big queues at Sydney that I see, relate to 7am departures. We could depart 10 minutes early to beat the rush, but it would have a disproportionate effect on mandatory rest periods pre-6am.

The big difference with BNE is that all the pre-6am Turboprop flights go to mining hubs. 95% of the pax on those flights are FIFO. SYD doesn't have that direct market.
Any FIFO traffic ex SYD at that time is on the 6am flight to PER/BNE to connect to their final destination.

Funny that the curfew doesn't apply to bugsmashers, in a lot of cases they are noisier and the noise lasts for longer because a) they are so slow and b) they are generally lower due to lack of climb performance.

Yeah, it was a farce years ago when Queenairs were flying the night freight and were deemed to be acceptable during the curfew, but other types which could climb more rapidly were not

It's quite simple, legislation doesn't allow passenger carrying ops during curfew hours, except in limited cases. Ie 3 specific flights between 5 and 6am during non daylight saving period.
So all this Rex thread is a moot point.

Again I have to agree that most Turbo prop destianations are timed to allow arrival at the destination for work. Most people start work at around 0830 business people anyway. Most sectors are maximum 90 minutes so work it out what is the point of leaving before 0600. Hence you get a peak period.
