1Charlie if you work at brisbane (tower?) can you let an academy trainee know what the training in BNE is like? Is it hard/easy with CROPS, what are the trainers like? Or if your in approach, know anyone on PPRUNE who can answer?

So today a chieftain came into land (RWY01) while a 717 had been given a line up clearance. No one spoke up until the chieftain was about 50ft off the deck ahead of the 717 and told go around and commenced a very small tight circuit while the 717 rolled. Traffic management at its best

Stand-off between Brisbane Airport owners and airlines threatens delays to new runway
BRISBANE Airport is set to halt work on a desperately needed new runway, creating further delays for frustrated passengers and jeopardising the state's economic growth.

The long-awaited $1.3 billion project is being held ransom in a stand-off between the airport's private owners and the airlines.

The parallel runway, which was due to be completed in 2020, is the intended long-term solution to growing flight congestion which made the airport the country's worst for arrival times in December.

Brisbane Airport Corporation, which rakes in $9 million a week in revenue but finished the last financial year $54 million in the red, wants airlines to fund a quarter of the runway cost through increased passenger charges over the eight-year development period. But they refuse.

No other airport has ever demanded upfront payment of new infrastructure over such a long period, with Perth Airport ditching its plan to pre-charge airlines for a third runway earlier this year.

The deadlock in Brisbane threatens to stall construction of the 3.3km runway.

About $50 million worth of first-phase site works, started last August, are due to be completed by the end of May.

At last! New plan to reduce airport delays

Adding director. 2 min arrival sequence. Extra high speed exits. Anyone know the time frame? Are there enough bodies to do it ATC wise? If it is a known issue doesn't Airservices already have a traffic mangement cell that can issue arrival slots to spread out the peak? It sounds like airborne delays sometimes exceed flight times. Sounds like a good start on face value vut when if ever will it happen?

Whilst it is something it doesn't solve the problem. They either need a new runway or a new airport.

Two more rapid exits will only help for those that occasionally miss the existing ones, international heavies and for some reason Air NZ A320s so wont have a huge benefit, not to mention the cost of building them. The missing link cost 10 mill and look how long that took.

2 min arrival spacing sounds great. But it only gets you an extra 5 landers per hour (max). Not enough room for heavy departures, and no doubt more go arounds.

Adding a finals director is a great idea and is badly needed. However at this stage the Brisbane Terminal group is only hoping for enough staff to open Brisbane Departures North. Sometime in September. So unless, following all the negative publicity on the efficiency of BNE Airservices make it a priority to expedite the training of two extra positions in the near future I wouldn't expect a lot of change rapidly.

Today's Courier Mail

BRISBANE has eclipsed Melbourne as the second busiest major airport in Australia with the growth blamed for increasing flight delays. Figures released by Air Services Australia show that flights in and out of Brisbane jumped by more than 15,000 to 219,920 during 2012-2013.
Melbourne had 218,974 flights, while Sydney airport retained the number one spot with 327,520 flights taking off and landing.
Brisbane Airport Corporation head of corporate relations Rachel Crowley, said the findings came as a surprise and explained the increasing airport congestion.
The Courier-Mail's #bnelateagain campaign has highlighted ongoing frustrations over existing chronic flight delays and the urgent need for the additional runway.
"There's a significant passenger number difference, so for us to pass them in aircraft movements is extraordinary," Ms Crowley said.
"However, that's the reason for the congestion.
"The delays at the Brisbane airport during the peaks are largely due to unprecedented growth in traffic and that's what has made us the second busiest for airport movements in the country."
Data from the Federal Bureau of Infrastructure, Transport and Regional Economics shows almost 4000 flights through Brisbane were at least 15 minutes late in July.
About a quarter of all departures were late with 37 per cent of arriving flights running behind during the same month.
Ms Crowley said increased flights are generally a response to passenger demand but that was not the case this time.
She said the growth of the resources industry in Queensland had played the biggest part in the increased number of flights in and out of Brisbane.
"There have been increases across the board but the sort of increase we have seen has largely been driven by intrastate flights, and that can be almost entirely sheeted home to the resources industry and the fly in-fly out workers," she said.
The statistics relate to aircraft movement - or number of takeoff and landings - not the number of passengers.
The figures for the capital city airports do not include traffic in and out of other smaller airports in the states.
This breaks down to about 300 extra flights per week.
International flights were on the decline, even though Hawaiian Airlines started operating out of Brisbane in December and Philippines Airline launched in June this year.
Sydney continues to be the most popular domestic route while Auckland was the busiest international route.
