Amp, if we are to win the battle against these guys, I suggest that a thicker skin might be required. I'm pretty sure that the bombmaker has some choice names for us pilots, too!

If I were to call a sheep shagger a sheep shagger, it wouldn't necessarliy be correct or appropriate, would it? So what? My point is this - there are bigger things to worry about.

I reckon the little guy went home and said "begorah, 'tis a hell of a day oive had, to be sure. But termorrer, oim goin' to have fun screwin those pilots again. Hee hee."

He couldn't care less about it, so why do you? Don't lose focus.

Sunfish, whilst what you state is correct, simply stating.'My name is Bill Heffernan and I am an egregious toe -rag is not mitigation in a court of law.Heffernan has form for smearing people who don't conform to his particular view of the world.I do not have a runner in this race, however,to smear a man simply upon his race is something that none of us would be proud of surely?

not that I'm backing Joyce but....

Every family has the wayward Auntie or Uncle...and the pollie family tends to breed more than its fair share.

Notwithstanding Senator Grumpy Pants' intended attempt at colloquial humour, I think it was a statement that actually empowered Joyce - I know my reaction would be to see the Chair as a lesser figure, or in this case opponent.

I firmly believe Joyce's blind passion for Jetstar/LCC franchises and the blind faith in the flunkies surrounding him has rightly earned him the title of the Orange Emperor. - I also believe that in due course the Emperor will see that his new clothes actually are leaving his ar*se exposed.

Anyone who like Joyce, blindly proclaims high staff turnover, a raising of safety reporting trigger levels* and ignorance of the core business clientele is a good thing, certainly deserves to be punted and made accountable. (give back your bonus AJ)

Unless in direct reference to the decline in the QF brand, or the declining performance of the business, according him the title of 'bomb maker' based on heritage does little to apportion the accountability and scrutiny that is so badly needed. (and that is what we are PAYING the Senator to deliver)

I'm just wondering how different the media coverage would be, were Heffernans comment made in relation to a CEO who was another racial background?

Heffernan is an idiot. Joyce is an idiot.

Two idiots do not make a sensible person (sorry to butcher a common saying).

Bomb Makers

I am totally amazed at the "thin skin" many seem to have. The "holier than thou" sentiments expressed by many here are quite ironic. There are numerous PPRuNe posts questioning the intelligence, attitude toward staff and other qualities of Mr Joyce, mostly made by Qantas personnel. Most of us know that Bill Heffernan is a "loose cannon" and, as such, we come to expect the sort of comments he comes out with. Mr Heffernan is predictable in the sense that we expect inappropriate comments from him. As Balance has said, there are bigger problems with which we should concern ourselves. As one who has worked with and lived among other ethnic groups I can assure you that in many cases where one's country of birth is used in a joke you can "delete" Irish and "insert" Aussie. Personally, I'm more concerned with our PM who declared pre-election that we would not have a Carbon Tax whilst she was leader of the Government but has now moved the goal posts so that we are going to have a Carbon Tax. BTW, before the ALP brigade with amnesia join in about John Howard and the GST, he took his plan to introduce the GST to an election, and won.

I am totally amazed that a politician can get away with such a comment as long as it's not directed at one particular protected race/religious group.

How about some uniformity??

To make things fair, lets see the Irish burning effigies of Heffernan and chanting o'jihad to Aussies???

Of course they won't as they, like you Old Fella have thick skin.... a trait that has been passed down through subsequent ancestors to current day Aussies.

Guess we'll find out today if the AIPA Com is going to light the fuse of this bomb Alan has built for us all. I've some dry matches if needed, think most of us are sick of keeping the powder dry as well.

Thick Skinned

You are totally correct BSC. I am of Irish descent, have an Irish brother-in-law and can see that what Bill Heffernan said is nothing better or worse than most of us have encountered in our lives. Dare not upset those who follow the Middle Eastern traditions though, they really will most probably throw a bomb.

As an Irish born Muslim I take great offence at Heffernan's comment.
I hereby declare fatwa on him.

Hey, maybe he has inside info that Joyce actually made bombs, so it was not a racial slur but a factual comment, hell, I used to make heaps of bombs as a kid, if I was called a bomb maker I would be proud! Now think of something useful to do rather than getting agro about a comment lol, life is more fun than that!
