Looks like there will be 400's in W.A shortly then.

What a can of worms this will be. Are they going to NC or QLINK or a Greenfields operation to crew them

Great.......The next Gen........with unusable FMS's.......and engines that burn holes in themselves when run at manufacturers settings.....

What ingenious procedures will these people put in place now that we are getting the Next Gen 400......I might google the space shuttle checklists to see what is in store for me!

I know you will laugh at this Hugh Jarse......Hope your well mate. Speak soon

And who is going to fly these new aircraft. Currently half the crew being placed in training focus groups, crew constantly being placed off line due sim failures including entry cyclics, upgrade cyclics and currency cyclics. There is currently EAA crew flying with SSA crew all over the network due lack of current crew. The place is a cluster.

Thumbs down

If this is correct them there is something seriously wrong with their training system,or could it be more of certain people having their own agendas ?

I don't having anything to do with Qlink however the airline I fly for seems to have a few checkies who appear to get off on failing people in the sim,as a result I consider the sim as a torture box if I'm placed in there with the wrong checkie. Get in the sim with a good checkie and I have a great day !

This kind of behavior does nothing to encourage crews, infact in most cases it really screws with peoples minds not to mention the effect it can have on families. Hence,I've been through it and it's not nice.

Maybe we should start a new thread on this topic, not to have a bitch but to get ideas on how to try and deal with these kind of problems when they happen.

Waghi,

Obviously the wrong people in the job at yours.

The problem with sim today is that there is virtually NO T and ALL C.

The paradox with the "box" is that it is, and should be the best training tool at our disposal, but is ultimately abused, and therefore is the worst training tool operated by the wrong person.

To have the fear of god put up you before you even enter the sim building due to the toe cutting mentality at alot of these companies speaks volumes of the Flt Ops Depts within these "airlines".

Bombardier Sells 7 Q400 NextGen Airliners to Qantas

(Farnborough, UK., July 21, 2010) -- Bombardier Aerospace announced today that Australian flag carrier, Qantas Airways Ltd. has placed a firm order for seven Q400 NextGen turboprop airliners. The aircraft will be operated by Qantas' wholly owned regional airline, QantasLink.

Based on the list price for the Q400 NextGen aircraft, the contract is valued at approximately $218 million US.

This order will increase to 28 the number of Q400 and Q400 NextGen airliners operated by QantasLink. The airline also operates two Bombardier Dash 8-200, three Q200 and 16 Q300 aircraft.

Qantas Chief Executive Officer, Mr Alan Joyce, said the Q400 aircraft had become the flagship of QantasLink's regional fleet.

"Qantas has invested over A$600 million in 21 Bombardier Q400 aircraft over the last four years," he said.

"The aircraft really suits QantasLink's operations and is extremely popular with the airlines customers."

"We have therefore made the decision to acquire another seven aircraft for delivery from the first half of 2011. These new aircraft are next-generation Q400 aircraft with upgraded cabin interiors and larger overhead compartments."

"Qantas has deployed the Q400 and Q400 NextGen the way its designers intended," said Gary R. Scott, President, Bombardier Commercial Aircraft. "These aircraft have replaced or complemented jet services, replaced smaller and older turboprops, reached out to new markets and extended the range beyond typical turboprop distances, and all this with the most comfortable and most cost-competitive aircraft in its class."

It may be well deployed. Shame we don't operate it as the designers intended!

Just thinking out loud,

The 717 contract will be up for renewal as the Q400's arrive, about the right number as well

Skynews, you may be on the money. Some of the extra B737-800 capacity that is arriving late this year/early next year is destined for the WA Intrastate operation. This plus the new Q400 capacity would be able to replace the existing B717 services - personally, I hope that it is all additional flying rather than replacement flying as it will open up jobs for many pilots. I haven't seen any statement from management about their intentions in WA.

The Q400's won't replace the 717's. At the 'speeds' (if you can call it that ) that they operate them, the current WA/NT stuff is out of reach.

You'd just be gifting the pax to DJ/XR!
