A few years ago now (around 5?) Perth - Joburg. 747 - 300.
Air turn back + dump due no Jepp plates JNB.
How did I know this would eventually denegrate.
Suggestion to some (I hope minority), try not throwing rocks inside glass houses.
BTW - If it helps, the Captain is a former QF pilot.......... and a very good operator.

Can someone point out the bona-fide QF pilots in this conversation who are denigrating the JQ pilots over this error? Because I bet there aren't any. The same as no bona-fide QF pilot ever gets on here and spruiks about QF's safety record over anyone elses because we know we are vulnerable, just like anyone else.
To the people who claim QF pilots get on here and do and say these things, prove it!
If an aircraft return to departure point due to a publications screw-up, I believe that is actually a sign of a good safety culture, because plenty of airlines would have simply kept on going.
The Perth "ditching" is another example of those with an axe to grind with QF guys getting it wrong because they want to. It has been rehashed many times in this forum. Do a search if you want to know what really happened.
A classic did return to Perth a few years ago because no JNB plates were on board. It was an example of a crew owning up to a screw-up and doing the right thing. I believe the JQ scenario was the same.
Why do you people get stuck into crews of any airline that own up to the errors that we all make, and do the right thing about it?

ditzyboy.......In any operation you will get technical snafu's and pax problems such as sickness and of course the occasional weather problems but I have never seen or heard of anything like this in QF Long Haul....
As mentioned I have seen it in SH and the error was partly the resposibility of the ex-LH CSM LOL

So although you did not specify the problem basically what you are saying is that it has happened in short haul.....

Basic airmanship is still basic.....such as checking that you have correct charts and approach plates prior to departure, just like flaps, fuel and gear pins before take-off! Rather than dwelling on the past, let's just learn from this as it could happen to anyone. Happy trails.

Lobey -
I was responding to a post that "It does not happen at Qantas." SH and LH are BOTH equally a part of Qantas.
Issue was the red satchel/docs never made it to the aircraft, and that the CSM did not have possession of their passport.
Said CSM has spent 95% of their career to that point in LH division and was working on an aircraft he had worked on many times at LH (763).
But allow me to excuse myself. LH are better than SH...
