VB low fuel state in ADL ??

Sudden unforecast wx deterioration in ADL last Sunday 20th. VB flight, not carrying any alterate fuel as per original forecast, missed out on VOR 05 approach was told to hold then made an ILS 23 approach eventually landing with a TWC. There has been a "suggestion" that said aircraft needed to be towed to the tarmac after landing. Anybody heard anything about this ? Can't imagine crew would have allowed fuel to get to critical point. I emphasise reported facts by other pilots on frequency are cloudy & no suggestion that this is anything but a misunderstanding but would be interested to hear from anybody else caught in the ADL wx last Sunday.

Do companies hold YPED as an alternate? I remember doing an Ansett famil flight back in about 1998 when I was a boggy at Edinburgh - the crews didn't even consider it, even though is is an 8400ft ILS equipped runway. Just wondering if this has changed?

Cheers,

NFR.

You contradict your self here!

The original Adelaide forecast had no alt req. You did get the "Sudden unforecast wx deterioration in ADL" correct.

I read preset's post to say that the AC did not require an ALT as the original forecast did not require it. The WX was unforecast! that is what he said.

Sorry IFF I don't see it either. He wasn't carrying alternate fuel because the original forecast didn't require him to. That is what I thought he said.

Sorry IFF...

I read it the same as the others.

The intent of the original post was that the original forecast didn't result in a requirement for the extra fuel.

It could have been written more clearly though.

My apologies Looks like I will have to brush up on my punctuation. I read the whole thing in the incorrect context.

Towed to the terminal huh? I'd like to see that. Lets see, missed approach, 600kg. ILS maybe another 250 kg, probably less. Plan to arrive with 2.4T (Std) IF no other contingencies allowed for. (Unusual) Makes 1.5T on landing. Towed? Escorted due to low vis maybe.

Maybe this is because no one outside the RAAF has a clue how many metres 8400ft is! But seriously, it would be good if the RAAF expressed RWY length in metric terms as per the civilian world.
Maybe you could divide by 3.28!!!!

Alternatively try the Enroute SUPP - it has all the military field's lengths in feet and meters.

Question

QF lists YPED as an emergency airfield and has charts on board. Does DJ have a similar thing?

Aircraft was holding after one approach to RWY 05. After a while a comment was made along the lines of needing to leave the hold to avoid some "paperwork." Aircraft then flew a 23 ILS with TWC and landed.

Let me be absolutely clear here, I was not, repeat not implying any wrong doing decisionmaking etc. There was unforecast weather & it did catch a few aircraft out (due to no fault of their own !), large & small alike. I believe the weather affected Parafield but don't know if Edinburgh was so affected. The missed approach, holding etc & the report that a VB aircraft was being towed (if indeed this was the case) may have been two separate events. My original post stated there was a "suggestion" but did not seek to link the two together, in fact I said I couldn't imagine it would be the case. All I was asking if anybody knew something concrete that may have linked the two !
My apologies to all & sundry if my post was in some way miscontrued. I thank those who took the time to reread my post & clarify the issue of unforecast wx & alternate fuel.
Thanks Wingroot that's what I was after

In 14 years of airline ops and regularly into AD I've never seen any weather there that came anywhere near challenging the ILS minima.
There was a 320 that got caught out with fog at Adelaide and necessitated an autoland not all that many years ago. Ansett?
