Emirates Airlines . Check this out.
The green grass and freedom we have in OZ for us and our respective families has to be worth more than its weight in gold !
The more you compare jobs, pay, cities etc the less likely you are to be happy. Try and make the most of where ever you are and I guarantee you'll have better job satisfaction. The sky jockies in 3rd world Africa are making the most of their limited lifestyle and are having a ball.
My 5 cents worth ( untaxed for the guys in dubai)

Not that I give a rat's ---- about what anybody thinks about my opinion but,
here is my 2 bobs worth.
Having experienced probably the best in Airline jobs and the worst both in Aust and as an expatriate, I wouldn't go back to a job in Aust. This would be referring to QF, not the lowcosts like VB and JQ as they don't even rate consideration.
In fact if I knew what I know now, when I was 25,I would have headed off then and skipped Australian aviation.
Have been spending a fair bit of time back in Aust , it isn't what it used to be.Some nice places but, plenty of nice places around the world as well.
Remember you are funding the Australian lifestyle for not only yourself but for several others if you make a decent salary.
I find myself choosing overseas locations more and more.
Maybe I'm lucky as I have the choice.........for the moment!

Mr Bee,
Read the first line of the post that was meant for others in general. That to your comment as well.
Having put in a fair contribution towards the "Australian lifestyle" for many years and instead of telling others what they should do ,this was an attempt for others to benefit from the opinion of someone who has sampled both sides. Trying to be helpful to others. You may notice that money wasn't mentioned apart from the drain that the "welfare, tax,et all, country" requires in return for the supposed lifestyle. From your comments, is it right to summize that you are quite happy with this system?
If that sort of number crunching is important to you, one would have to wonder what you do in life and what your opinion is.
On second thought,no, read the first line again.
Is this a record for the number of times that references were made to other people?
Bee hive!!

Wizofoz,
You make an accurate comparison (judged from EK friends I have) of the benfits of EK vs an Aussie airline.
However, among the many reasons I have children is so that I could contribute, teach, enjoy and see them growing up. Glad you get a great deal to send them to a UK boarding school. Me, I think the 14,000AUD I pay per year for both of them to attend an Aussie school and see me more than just an occasional holiday is actually priceless. I don't care how much I would save 'financially', I wouldnt give up seeing them grow up for any price.
But as somebody here as already said - each to their own, we all make decisions based on different choices. I guess you are happy with yours.

mmmbop,
You mis-understood my post. My kids attend a British system school here in Dubai and are home every night. They are recieving a first class education, have excellent access to sport and leisure activities, and see a lot more of me than even when I was flying European low-cost short haul.
Doing the best by ones family is indeed all a juggling act, and I don't pretend to have all the answers, but my wife and I came here believing it was a net-positive for all of us, and so far we are content that is was a good move.

Wiz,
I was thinking that was maybe the case when I was typing, but when you specified UK I thought you must have meant back in the UK.
Makes the deal sound even better!

All I have to say is congratulations on your bonuses... all of you at Emirates have no doubt worked hard and have been fairly rewarded for your efforts...
The amount of whinging and moaning and slagging off when something positive is shown, is absolutely amazing.. something no doubt airlines pilots are very adept at producing..
