Emirates Airlines . Check this out.

I thought this was interesting when compared to the pay and conditions we argue over here.

Chairman

Dear Colleague,

I am very pleased to announce that the Emirates Group has achieved record profits for the past financial year, 2007-08.

The group profit share target was set at Dhs3.75 billion, which we have surpassed.

You are, therefore, entitled to a bonus, equivalent to 14 weeks' pay, in your May salary.

Thank you for your hard work and dedication.

Ahmed bin Saeed Al-Maktoum

“As we plan for the next decade, our biggest challenges will be to find more pilots, engineers, cabin crew and skilled staff across our various business units. Fortunately, Emirates has thus far been a strong employer brand, with more

than three million unique visitors browsing job opportunities on our online recruitment website last year, from which we received over 288,000 applications for positions within the Group. Being based in Dubai also has its advantages as

the city itself is already preparing to welcome 15 million visitors by 2010 and there is massive investment in infrastructure to serve and attract the increasing number of expatriates.”

Wish I worked for a company that rewarded its staff that well..... :D:D

Stretch:ok:

boardpig 2nd May 2008 03:48

Sigh....

Puts our operators to shame. Makes em look p*ss poor.

lemel 2nd May 2008 05:10

if only i had the thousands of hours on jets that they require...
would be there in a heart beat!

Scooter Rassmussin 2nd May 2008 05:12

Dont get sucked in by all the Hype . If you want to become part of the slave trade go for it and waste the best years of your life in the dessert for little more reward than a 737 driver at VB.....

KRUSTY 34 2nd May 2008 05:28

So I guess based on that Scooter, we will soon see hordes of Aussie EK drivers flocking home to take up the generous offers of DJ, JQ, Tiger etc...

Thank God! for a while there I thought the wages at these operators would have to increase in order to attract em'.

Scooter Rassmussin 2nd May 2008 05:29

You may be very surprised Krusty..............

Watchdog 2nd May 2008 06:46

Scooter,
actually a few of us ex AN/QF/VB/J* are having a great time here "wasting our lives away". Sure, most would head back if wages/conditions/job security were on par or close, but the fact is that is not the case.
Plenty will do 10 or so years out of the 'sheltered workshop' and come home in a far heathier financial position than if they had stayed.
Gotta go - off to spend my $35K (AUD) bonus (tax free by the way) :ok:

Wizofoz 2nd May 2008 06:57

Scooter,

Like many EK whingers you can predict some great exodus all you like. The simple fact is we have had largely one-way traffic from Aus airlines to EK. Some who have been here a while and set themselves up are going to V-aus, but we are talking low double figures. Flew with an old friend the other day who gave up a Command at VB to come as an FO (not even accelerated).

little more reward than a 737 driver at VB.....
SIMPLY NOT TRUE:-

EK FOs are getting around 24-27K/ mth dirhams after flight pay. That's 7-9K aussie clear. IFR a VB FO grosses 120K for the year (and most of them don't) that's around 6900/th after tax.

Now lets look at the package:-

Housing- EK pilot- FREE
VB Pilot. Sydney accomodation (Mortgage, rent or return on investment) MINIMUM $1500/mth

Utilities- EK Pilot- FREE
VB Pilot, around 1000 mth?

Education EK Pilot- Varies, but my kids go to a very good UK school and the co-payment is negligable
VB Pilot - Either cough up to live in a good suburb with a reasnoble state school, or pay private school fees (10-20K/ yr?)

Now let's talk cheap cars, very cheap petrol, medical, staff travel, bonus payments etc. etc.

To get the same net benefit in Australia as I do as a second year EK captain, paying tax and having all the above expenses coming from post-tax income, I would jhave to earn well in excess of 300K/ yr in Australia.

People have very valid reasons for both leaving EK and not coming in the first place. Dubai is way different, foriegn, hot and the driving is terrible. The work doesn't suit everyone and many families (particualrly spouses) find it hard to adjust.

However, arguing that it's "Not much better" financially than the current climate in Aus is simply false.

Bypass ratio 2nd May 2008 07:22

When Emirates Airlines alone earns USD1.5 Billion in 12 months, I think we deserve a cut!!!:D

GANKER 2nd May 2008 08:00

you guys obviously havent spent much time in dubai!
Money aint everything and niether is a big shinny Jet!
Ya family and friends are what should come first. You
cant put a price on lifestyle and a sense of identity for your kids.
I know everyone is different so save the barrarge! I have first hand experience and for me no amount of money would get me to live in a
place I didnt want to. 14 weeks PS or not :ok:

Living In Australia......

Lord Flashhart 2nd May 2008 09:44

Scooter-

Just back from a great trip, about to head out on my 40ft Cabin cruiser, the one that my family and I just would never be able to afford if we were at VB. We are loving the lifestyle here, and boy the 14weeks bonus is going to pay for a hell of a lot of petrol for the boat. Yehhhaaa

:ok:

Towering Q 2nd May 2008 23:59

Lord Flashhart, be careful not to stray into Iranian waters.

jetblues 3rd May 2008 00:35

Ganker agree 110%. The EK crews may get a bonus this year, may not next year? The green grass and freedom we have in OZ for us and our respective families has to be worth more than its weight in gold !

hongkongfooey 3rd May 2008 03:40

Anybody here ever heard anyone, especially a pilot, say " Gee, what an idiot I am for moving here, god I hate this place " :E
Flash you enjoy your 50c summers and the locals, and I'll enjoy my pollution ( and the locals ) :ok:
Not sure I could live on the income Wiz mentioned anyway :ouch:

Hoofharted 3rd May 2008 04:11

It never ceases to amaze me how there is always someone on this site wanting to "slag-off" another for their choice in employment. You wanna go offshore to work.........thats cool, you wanna stay at home to work.........thats cool too. Why does it have to degenerate into a bloody "dick-measuring contest" We may not agree with anothers reasons/rationale but thats called personal choice.

If you ever wondered why the pilot body will NEVER work together in Auz, this thread will give you just a little heads-up. :ugh:

hoss58 3rd May 2008 05:05

Hoofhearted

Very neatly and very nicely summed up.:D

Fly safe and play hard.

Regards to all.

Tempo 3rd May 2008 08:09

Yeah....I am sure it is great flying for EK on the 777/A330/whatever....but here is the thing....you have to live in F&*#EN DUBAI!!!!!!!! And yes I have been there. I am sure you are loving it......with all your flash little toys like 40ft boats and expensive 4WDs to cruise the dunes with...but when the dust settles and a couple of years have passed...you will wake up one day and realise that you are missing out on all the benefits of living in a great country like australia. I would not go there for anything. WORK TO LIVE not live to work. Simple...
