V Jet Recruiting (Virgin International Operations)
Haven't been able to find a thread on the proposed V Jet (Virgin International)
rumoured for establishment in Australia. So thought I'd start one up.
Any information of proposed on:
Operations
Bases
Remunerations
Conditions of Service
Recruitment Streams
etc.....
Be interested to know what's on offer if anyone knows of anything.
Cheers

Not much out there. First 3 a/c crewed by Virgin Domstic transfers and 777 experienced recruits from the likes of Cathay and Emirates.
Still over a year away so not much more for a while I guess?
I see Jetstar are starting the 787 process now though for Aug 08 ops.

If the Jetstar base for the B787 is anything as crap as the A330 base I can't see too many experienced wide body drivers heading home for that gig. I hear whispers the "V" base will be more attractive, and it will need to be.

From what I have been told this morning Jetstar already have enough 777 drivers interested in the jobs. It is THE aircraft to get an endorsement on so guys are happy to come back to Oz for effectively less money than the desert. There won't be too many more cracks at it after V Australia starts up.
Interest is one thing... Acceptance is another...
It's like the mounting anecdotal evidence that QF thought it had plenty of people falling over themselves to wait on the hold file only to find that, recently, some job offers have been declined because pilots have started on Oz-based F/O contracts with better-than-S/O money and prospects. I agree that the potential expat returnees will mostly expect significantly better than the current J* 'package' to seriously entertain job acceptance, and they can hold their decisions until quite late in the 787 delivery schedule.
Never a dull moment!!

OK let's bring this to the top again:
International will need X amount of internationally experienced crews to get up and running, depending on who you talk to the Pornstar International experience of offering f**k all in T&C was a roaring success or a dismal failure, they got what they wanted at the price they wanted or they get what they wanted but the price ended up a hell of a lot more (creative accounting and lies will fix that, no prob's!!)
Fair to say I believe the latter.
An established airline sits it's nose on a runway may, in the short term, get away with it - V intl wont!
Why in the hell wouldn't you take a contrary tack - advertise at $250-300,000 PA for experienced T&C to get the op up and running on 2/3 year contract, non renewable, end up having 100?? (pick your own figures at those sort of prices) applicants for 20?? key positions, pick and choose who will best serve you and then trumpet how your "committment to safety, a safe environment, safety, safety, experience, experience blah blah" is different to Pornstar Intl (if anyone asks.)
The cost all comes off the taX anyway so - why woulndn't you do it for the sheer pleasure of having more qualified applicants than positions to chose from (luxuuurrryyy!) and the positive advertising spin of experience, safety etc??
Don't even get me started about the domestic side - any screw ups there with 73's or JJ can (like doctors) be buried quietly, maybe with the implicicit compliance of the regulator(s) - for the benefit of all (except the dead but they really don't count as they're............)
You screw up on USA runs and the only ones doing the burying will be the FAA etc - and when they get tired suspect QF would be more than happy to man the shovels.
So why wouldn't you spend the money to try to ensure the success of your most visible expansion??
If you get it wrong you are very, very potentially Ansett.
Just a thought.

Nicely said galdian.
Some months ago when Etihad commenced services out of Sydney, one of the big-wigs from the middle East came out and held a meeting for the airline's Sydney airport management. One of those managers asked the question:..
"With all the expansion you are planning, and the now acknowledged world wide shortage of pilots, how are you going to get enough drivers?"
"That wont be a problem", the official explained, "We are simply going to offer them Much more money than anybody else".
Now there's a man who understands the problem.

"Now there's a man who understands the problem."
No, actually, theres a man who will make the same mistake made by many ineffective airline managers. Simply throwing money at staff retention problems is simplistic and provides nothing but a short term solution.

The Arabs will pay as little as they can get away with.
