Hey did anyone see the Melbourne U2 concert?
I heard a rumour that after the second encore, Bono was on his way back stage when he inadvertantly exclaimed "Thank You Sydney, Goodnight!", after which his applause and standing ovations turned to booing.
Tragic mistake. Can anyone confirm?

Continental-520,
The concert was as good as I've seen them play, and I've seen them every time they've been out since 1984 (Bloody hell, I was still in high school then).
It was actually Edge who came to the microphone and thanked Sydney. He stepped back from the microphone and the crowd started. One of the other band members told him that they were in fact in Melbourne. He returned to the microphone and said something like "Thankyou Melbourne, Sydney, Adelaide, Brisbane, ....but especially Melbourne ...." - priceless.
You can't really blame the guy, he's probably played in more cities than we know even exist - he's entitled to get a bit confused every now and then. Besides that, he's still one of the coolest guys on earth and had blown up his amp a couple of songs into the night. Rock on.
Snail.

Just spoke to my niece last week about the U2 concert in Sydney.
To quote her "it was an unbelievable concert but I didnt pay $125 for good seats just to receive a bloody lecture!"

Bono lectured her? What about? Why wasn't she behaving? Was she throwing her knickers again?

Would this be the same BONO that has both his group and personal taxes payed offshore to avoid paying tax in Ireland?
You cant blame the guy but its a bit rich when he rants on about world poverty and charged the equivalent of 1 months wages in Brazil (one of the most poverty stricken countries in South America) for the cheapest U2 ticket in that country?
A bit like Al Gore talking about global warming and owning the largest petrol engined Hummer and travelling around by private jet polluting the environment or the standard TV evangelist committing fraud and paying prostitutes for sex etc.
Ho hum..........but they all fly on airplanes!!!

I thought he was personally thanking me for flying down from NSW, but the crowd didn't seem to hold the same opinion.

I agree, it was a great concert... but it was a bit more political than i prefer my live shows to be , as was Pearl Jam who i saw earlier that week.
Why cant they just play music, thats what we go to see
And for aviation content : Sorry MB, i dont know what they were flying around in

Get me out of Brisbane....
I saw the U2 concert up here in BrisVegas and the locals were just about asleep. Bono seemed amazed that the crowd couldn't get off their arses and appreciate the music.... obviously Queenslanders don't like to get too excited about things like live concerts and international superstar bands.
Also agree about his bullsh!t lecture on poverty and David Hicks.
