Just something for all the pilots out there, hoping that there is some light at the end of the tunnel and it isnt a frieght train!

Whilst the airlines maintain that there is an oversupply of pilots, which may be true, the pendulum is beginning to swing.
The ABS has a myriad of statistics, but in effect our beloved baby boomers will in the next few years move from the workforce.

In an area like aviation, with mandatory retirement due to a host of reasons we will see better days.

Look at ATC, look at the medical profession they are beginning to struggle. India has already began sourcing ex pat pilots as they will not be able to provide them internally. Wait until China comes on stream. Any industry where specialists are, will face shortages as lead time for training impacts on the ability to put the people where needed. There is an arguement that the economic axis of the world will shift China/India, we are well placed.

QF know they will struggle to promote sufficient to meet fleet requirements inside the next 10 years. Of course they will not say that, keeping people on hold etc etc!
Every company knows specialist skills will be hard to find.

To the young person out there in GA, stick with it.

In the context of the EBA vote, all the scaremongering in the world won't convince me that the pendulum isn't swinging!

Qantas retirement rates WILL accelerate in the next 5 years!
Even a static company will provide promotion opportunites.

According to Boeing, China (the country) will be ordering another additional 1,000 aircraft over the next 20 years. China is already sourcing EXPERIENCED pilots to meet their growing demand.

QATAR Airways have recently INCREASED the salary being offered to expats by $1,500 US dollars per month, to try to attract pilots to Qatar (away from other recruiting airlines).

Conditions on offer outside QANTAS are becoming too much different to continue ignoring.
We ARE marketable commodities - unlike those on excessive salary and bonus packages, who are trying to (further) screw US to line THEIR silk purses.

And there are 14000 unemployed commercial pilots in Australia.

Then they'll ALL get jobs - probably as D.E skippers with QF.
GOD knows, he's going to need them.

There is an old saying :

"Make Hay while the sun shines"

which is really about taking advantage of the situation at a given point in time, however it won't take into account the stupidity of people who won't or are unable to accept that a shortage in terms of supply and demand will occur.

I always add 50% to a 100% to my original quote if someone rejects first and then later realises that they were wrong. (Its usually the HR department anyway)

you should do so too.

Well bushy,

this is exactly my point. It isn't something I take likley been unemployed a time or two in GA myself, post September 11 too it wasn't pretty.

There may well be 14000 unemloyed commercial pilots, the thrust of this thread is to stick with it.

Combining the growth in Asia, namely China and India with the older pilot group inhabiting the top echelons at Qantas would lead most informed observers to comment that in fact there are going to be paradigm shifts.

The paradigm shift will be unlike anything western economies have seen in the last century. The impact is enormous. The opportunity is such that hopefully most of the unemployed pilots will find some happiness flying for airlines....

I'm simply pointing out that the pendulum is moving, buying the doom and gloom from AIPA Qantas mainline, J* or anyone else is simply shortsighted....

Vote NO and see what happens...

To all the guys and girls left in GA, don't give in!

I can't beleive this good news for all pilots doesn't generate more than cursory interest. It is this paradigm shift which will changes so many things particularly with respect to our future employment.


Just think of the present interest in investment property. With many baby boomers lacking sufficient superannuation to retire on, the investment property is a vehicle to liquidate in retirement as they sell down assets...

It has spectacular taxation benefits, such that many boomers have more than one. What happens as they retire and sell off these assets?

Is property a continued good investment? It is these type of changes that we have not seen before. The impact of this huge number of retirements which will have implications on taxation social services and indeed even aviation...

Great news!

Hey QF Insider great news!

I'm really surprised too. (By the way what's a paradigme?).

The first two Mrs Bs ended up with my super so all I got is my investment properties..are you saying that that is good?

Should I vote Yes if I have got any properties or No?

I gues I should put more thought into money matters but what the heck, with trying to kjeep (it) up with Mrs B III and with golf and the boat I just haven't got the time.

I would find it very surprising if there were indeed 14000 unemployed Commercial pilots. I would however believe that there are 14000 people with commercial pilots qualifications not flying planes.

Yeah I'll take my silver spoon out of my mouth....

There is plenty of change Bunya, and it all inst in the hands of the company...Vote whatever way you want afterall most of us junior guys aren't lucky enough to have two former wives, maybe you will need to go on beyond 60 to pay for all your bad luck
