REX The Big Spending Spree...
From my good friends......here is the scoop !
Regional Express (Rex), Australia’s largest independent regional airline and Pel-Air Aviation Pty Limited, one of Australia’s largest regional freight and charter operators, today announced an agreement for Rex to invest in Pel-Air. Rex’s investment will involve a 50 percent stake in Pel–Air.
Announcing the move, Rex Managing Director, Geoff Breust, said that after examining a range of potential expansion and aviation investment possibilities, Rex believed there were substantial benefits and synergies in coming to an arrangement with the specialist cargo and charter service provider.
Pel-Air operates a fleet of eleven turbo – prop and twelve jet aircraft in cargo, special mission and passenger charter services throughout Australia and overseas. Its regular cargo services extend from northern Queensland through to Melbourne and Adelaide as well as between Darwin and Melbourne via Alice Springs. It provides specialist medivac operations in conjunction with Careflight International.and also provides special strike and target towing activities under contract to the Australian Defence Force.
“Our investment in Pel-Air is designed to provide strategic benefits in terms of market diversity and growth, synergies to reduce cost and provide broader coverage. There are potential cost savings in aircraft utilisation, maintenance and the sharing of facilities and resources. Pel-Air will continue as an entity in its own right,” Mr Breust said.
Mr Russell Hodge, a director of Pel-Air, who will be appointed to the Rex Board, said that the arrangement with Rex would bring great benefits for both Companies.
“Pel-Air is a well respected and successful operator in the two tonne segment of the air freight market and provides quality charter services for a variety of customers. Our activities complement those of Rex’s regional airline services making the arrangement an excellent fit. The investment by Rex will be positive for Pel-Air’s customers and staff,” Mr Hodge said.
The agreement between the Companies is subject to certain conditions being met including the successful listing of Rex later this year.

Thats super great news, glad someone like rex out there is helping Australian Aviation move forward. And make the industry a better place to work in.
Its good news for the new up and coming punters to have something decent to look up on as a goal to further enhance your prospets of moving to the jet age of employment.
Lets support the smaller operators so we can have a future for the new punters.
Thumbs up all around !
*** Aviation in itself is not inherently Dangerous. But to an even greater degree than the sea, it is terribly Unforgiving of any Carelessness, Incapacity or Neglect.........

When they do float a IPO on the ASX listing, i think it will be a good investment to accuire some shares just to say you own a or some aviation company shares.
And that little saab flying down below us is part of my portfolio as well.
Keep up the good work, as we will bring more dollars down there to help you all do even better down the long track.
And pehaps small regional jets in the next few years to come.
Flying is the second greatest thrill known to man.......Landing is the FIRST !

There is more to life than seniority.
The purchase is not a take over but a purchase of part of the company. 50% gives equal stake - the operations will be separate for a while yet....

I predicted REX would purchase/merge with Pelair 12 months ago, an interesting situation with Pelair having an International Airline Licence.
Lets see if my next predictions come true.
Brisbane base to be formed with Qld regional runs
Rex to buy EMB 145, also later EMB 170's
Still later linking the capital cities Syd, Bne, Mel, Adl with EMB 190's
Then 737's on the trunk routes as a major domestic player
Later regional intl ops, NZ, pacific, asia
All this over around 7-10 yrs

Bank Angle, just wondering what a Metro ever did to you. Don't seem to like them much...?
If this development means more jobs without even sh!ttier conditions, then good is what I say... about time something decent happened in Aus aviation... these days it all seems to be doom and gloom....

Those are mighty BIG predictions Mr Catering, but then again Impulse/Jetstar/Jetstar Asia did it! So why not REX?
It does however seem to require the backing of a wealthy benefactor, hmmm, looks like they've got that base covered too!!
But please Rex management, don't follow the paying for endorsements trend...
Cheers, HH.

For an airline that in 3 years has achieved-
- A fleet of 30 aircraft and more than 600 core staff including employment for 220 pilots
- More than a million passengers carried last financial year
on over a 1000 flights a week in four states, with arguably the best OTP figures.
- Profit last year of $9 million on revenues of $130 million
- Partial sharemarket float before the end of 2005
- $500,000 dollar fund for drought assistance in affected rural areas.
- NO UPFRONT ENDORSEMENT charge for new pilots, safety culture and operating procedures similar to Ansett and training being kept in house, as it should!
- 50% purchase of one of Australia's biggest regional freight and charter operations in Pel-Air. Although operating separately it is expected that REX and Pel-Air will share come facilities as well as skill sets such as engineering.
The potential that REX has is infinite!
Smart management practices and great staff have seen this airline rise from the Ansett ashes and now at full gallop a dark horse that is taking many by surprise!
The next couple of years will be very exciting for this company, keep up the good work!

Perhaps if REX did not buy a share into pel- air, then BIG geoff Dixon from QF would have put his bid in.
QF group wants to dominate the sky......Dixon is always on the look out for deals to build up the books.
Freight is a sure way to make a profit, it yields are way better than getting punters in the door.
Smart, but you got to know how young dixy works.

Not sure what you have been smoking, but trust me buying half of Pelair would not build Dicko's books.
And sure as God made little apples Dicko would hardly even waste his energy thinking how to spell Pelair
