QF to announce Q400 order
Heard from a friend of a friends friend that there is an announcement regarding the Bombardier Q400 in the VERY NEAR future......
Watch this space!
Watch this space!
My best friends boyfriends aunt knows this guy who knows this girl who kissed this other girl who saw someone walking around with a Q400 keyring who said THEY know that the Q400's are coming................. YEAH, RIGHT
Someone also said it would be announced today, ie Friday 29th Nov 2004.
Sorry for the sarcasm, but I have been waiting, like all the other EAA and SS boys and girls for this one for a while. I will believe it when I sitting in it after my differences course!!!!!
Capt Stoobing.......so young yet so cynical.

You could also be sitting in a 717. 5 to 6 EAA and SS pilots to start at end of year. EAA is short of pilots and does not want to give them up yet. First type of mass move through ranks.
Confused?
Golow, do you mean by that post that some EAA and SS drivers are heading to Jet*. Is this a progression within the group or are they actually gaining employment by external means.
Reason I ask is a friend of a friend Blah Blah Blah at Qlink told me they were trying to strike some sort of progresion deal which may slow the exodus of pilots into non QF group companies (re VB) as Mainline don't seem interested in giving their turbo prop cousins a go.
Don't know to much about the Q400. I thought QF just bought a swag of Mickey Mouse Q300's for the Link guys and gals.

Poto, the reason mainline aren't interested in their turboprop cousins is because theres nothing in it for them. Jetstar was a different story. It was a jet. Who would want to take a pay cut from being a S/O to become a Dash f/o and earn $55k a year, and work harder??
How is some dodgy second-dibs (after mainline) deal with J* (if this is what they're hoping to "offer" ) going to stem the flow of EAA and SS pilots? Hate to break it but there isn't that many jobs at J*.
As already mentioned, there is no benefit for them (aside from savings in training costs, loyalty in the workforce...) so they aren't interested, and the pilots aren't interested in hanging around for them to change their minds.
EAA/ SS ---> Dragon = progression

EAA and SS have integration with Cathay, Dragon, Virgin, Royal Brunei and Eva to name a few but sadly Q does not think they are good enough……
J* right seat, pay for endorsement, for a captain, take a pay cut and move to worse conditions and that is supposed to stop the flow to the others…. Yes I can see that!

QantasLink to Replace BAe146s with Boeing 717s Latest News
SYDNEY, 29 October 2004
QantasLink said today it would replace its fleet of BAe146 aircraft with newer Boeing 717 aircraft from July 2005.
Executive General Manager Regional Airlines, Narendra Kumar, said the Boeing 717 aircraft would move progressively from Jetstar to QantasLink as Jetstar continued to grow its fleet of new Airbus A320s.
"This is a great opportunity for QantasLink and for our customers," Mr Kumar said.
"The newer aircraft will offer fresher cabins for our customers and the extra capacity will stimulate growth on regional routes and allow QantasLink to increase the number of discount seats on these routes."
Mr Kumar said eight Boeing 717s, operating in a 115 seat configuration with a 32 inch seat pitch, would gradually replace eight 65 to 76 seat BAe146s over the 12 months beginning July 2005.
He said QantasLink would continue to fly the remaining two BAe146 aircraft in its fleet, which are leased until December 2006. QantasLink also operates a fleet of 34 Bombardier Dash 8 aircraft.
Mr Kumar said QantasLink would operate the 717s in Western Australia, the Northern Territory and Queensland. The routes on which the 717s will operate include:
* Perth-Broome
* Perth-Kalgoorlie
* Perth-Karratha
* Perth-Paraburdoo
* Perth-Port Hedland
* Perth-Newman
* Paraburdoo-Newman
* Alice Springs-Ayers Rock
* Alice Springs-Broome
* Alice Springs-Cairns
* Alice Springs-Darwin
* Alice Springs-Perth
* Ayers Rock-Cairns
* Ayers Rock-Perth
* Cairns-Gove-Darwin
Mr Kumar said QantasLink would evaluate proposals from both National Jet Systems, which currently operates the airline's BAe146 fleet, and Jetstar, which currently operates the 717 fleet, to operate and maintain the new QantasLink 717 regional flying operations.
He said the changes to the QantasLink and Jetstar fleets would also require assessment of the various options for maintenance of both Airbus A320 and Boeing 717 aircraft. The Qantas Group would continue to keep all interested parties informed of this process.
QantasLink, one of the Qantas Group's four flying businesses, operates more than 1,900 flights a week to around 50 destinations across Australia.

So does this mean their OWN regional airlines miss out again??

It sure does Voodoo,
QF regional flying is wonderful, the pay good and the lifestyle fine. Overall a great job provided you're not looking at it as a stepping stone to mainline.
But then again, a little bird whispered to me that this issue has been mentioned and IS to be addressed in coming months.

See Spinout was right in a previous post when he said that EAA could be opening a Perth base . Maybe even a Darwin base as well for the SS guys, they already have Cairns covered .

I think you will find this is the end of National Jet… Jetstar will continue to operate the 717 under the Q-Link brand… and you guessed it the Regionals get screwed again but wait there’s more Narendra announced that a number of competitive based career opportunities will be made available for Q-Link pilots, you have to resign from the regional (Eastern Sunstate) and pay for your endorsement and start at the bottom of the J* list. J* will however wave the 6 month wait for J* staff travel….
Isn’t that great! Gee wiz I don’t think any one from the regionals will leave now do you?????

You fellas will have a long way to travel to the nearest Q400 simm.. either Seattle, Torronto or Stockholm.
I wonder if a Q400 simm will be out into a antipodean location eventually?

Assuming the 717's are doing the west link runs with the NJS pilots.
Could it be said then that QF will firm its Q400 options (sim included) and expand their capacity over the regional network on the Eastern seaboard.
The likelyhood of EAA or SS opening more bases in Darwin/Perth is extremely remote.
However don't be surprised to see some brand spanking new 75+pax Dash 8's giving the flow controllers a nightmare up and down the Aussie East coast
These guys deserve something considering mainline don't seem to believe they are worthy of consideration for the big ones with the Red Tails. This seems crazy to me I would have thought their experience would warrant them a look in at selection. QF surely must see well trained regional pilots heading out the door and think "Why are they leaving us?"
Just a side note. How well will a 717 with too many paint jobs handle the hot conditions in the North West?

"75+pax Dash 8's giving the flow controllers a nightmare up and down the Aussie East coast"
Karmakoma, why do you think the -400's will give the flow controllers a nightmare?
Regarding 717 performance in the West, I understand the plan is for some 146's to stay on to operate into certain airfields.

Looks like you missed the add in the Australian this Friday passed:
Nat Jets Surveillance arm, looking for a Dash 8 Sim Trainer, with prospect of being rebased in melbourne.
This tied in with anAir Nelson/Air New Zealand switch over, to a very convincing Bombardier order of Dash 300s, from their SAABs. Flight Sim in the area no doubt thrown in for such a big order/switch.
