Class 3 medical

Can anybody advise what is allowed in regards to spherical difference for a class 3 medical license.

I was advised a spherical difference of less than 3 dioptres was accepted but the NATS website says the difference in correction should not exceed 2 dioptres.

I don't want to waste anybody's time but with an eyesight of -0.25 and +2.50, does this make me ineligible?

follow Stubob’s link. There are plenty of controllers that wear glasses and I know some have a requirement on their medical certificate to keep a spare pair with them at all times. I think you’ll probably be ok but look through the CAA document linked above

Serravelle I would check up on the specifications on the CAA website which has all the information needed especially on something like that which will have the minumum tolerances for the Class 3 medical certificate.

Click and download the 'ATCO Medical Requirements' link towards the top of the page and all the technical information should be there.

Thank you, I have checked against the medical requirements and it isn't mentioned. I have double checked the class 3 classifications with an opthalmologist who has advised I would pass perfectly fine but the NATS website advises I'm not suitable. I've emailed recruitment, hopefully they'll let me continue to my stage 3.

I maybe shouldn't have highlighted it, but what's done is done.

I am sure you'll be fine. I assume you wear glasses or contacts? My vision is - 3.75 and - 4, and I received some feedback saying I may need extra check ups every 4 years when I'm an ATC but that's it. Although I haven't had my medical yet so don't quote me on this!

Serravelle 7th June 2019 07:36

Well recruitment have advised with it being a medical query that they can't help but wait until my medical if successful which is good news :)

Hello prescription twin!
I have a requirement on my medical certificate that I have to have a spare pair of glasses, but that's it. No one has mentioned extra checkups to me yet, but maybe that's because my prescription has been stable for some time now.

hi

i enjoyed the day! It flew by and consisted of exactly what they said it would.

I haven't heard anything back yet, so I am now in the unknowing faze which is arguably worse than the days running up to the stage 3!

The interview was long but it followed a similar theme to the countless past interview experiences posted on here. Just be calm, have your competency examples ready and it will flow nicely.

Learn everything in the book, it is imperative as the knowledge test will ask you anything from any section.

Group assessment is good fun, I can’t say anything about it I’m afraid as the scenarios will change. but be confident and work well as a team.

Ultimately thought just try and enjoy the day. I really enjoyed it and thought all the staff at NATS were warm, friendly and enjoyable company.

like I said above, I haven’t heard anything back yet, so take my advice in anyway you want.

And good luck.

Well I hope you'll get some good news soon!
Thank you for sharing info.... I have 2 days to go so I guess I will calm my nerves by then haha

P.s. Anyone going for Stage3 on 13th and staying at Holliday Inn let me know. Maybe we can grab a cup of coffee the day before

Hi idloveit,

Hope you will get a positive response soon!
And thanks, as I would take your advice.
Helped a lot.

Sat my Stage 3 on Monday, and just like previous poster, the day was long but enjoyable overall.

For those reapplying following the old system, expect many changes to the format and interview.

Can't say any more than that as we all know, but I personally think it's an improvement to the old ways.

We have been told it can be up to a month to hear back, however this may speed up as they get more used to the new systems.

Good luck to anyone waiting to attend or waiting to hear!

Hi all, I am just curious, does the new recruitment process not include FEAST or DART tests?

Nope, it's been done away with entirely.

Stage 1 is online and consists of aptitude tests,
Stage 2 is online and consists of personality questions,
Stage 3 is in person for interview, retesting Stage 1 and a group excersice

Interesting.
I suppose that the online tests are changed and are somehow similar to FEAST then?

Yes and no. There are some analogues to the old feast, but overall it's just a very different set of tests

Was nice meeting everyone at the assessment centre today, best of luck and I hope you all get the email you’re hoping for!

Anybody else refreshing emails frantically already? Haha

Tell me about it..!

It's been a week today since my S3 day. They did say 30days or so, so i'm in the mindset of it being another couple of weeks before we hear.

It's frustrating as they will clearly know our outcome! And i have been unsuccessful then it'll be tough to wait 30 days before finding that out.... I've put a lot on hold for this recently.

Me too!

However when I get an email I'm not sure I'd want to open it!
