Dubai/Abu Dhabi vacancies

Quite a few vacancies come up recently in UAE at both DXB and AUH.

What's going on? Mass exodus/retirees/redundancies?

Roles from ATCO to specialists. :}

my hands are tied 20th Apr 2016 06:49

Expect even more as new heavy handed draconian measures over working hours come into play :-(

ATLATC 20th Apr 2016 15:42

Is SERCO still running both operations?
And, does anyone know if they've lifted the 50 and older hiring restrictions?

Thx

Air Traffic Control jobs

Dubai has its own ANSP now, DANS (Dubai Air Navigation Services), and all the managers work for them. SERCO still provide some contract staff but the intention is to whittle that down.

Conditions

Does anyone know what the conditions are like? Working hours, leave, wages, pension. Do they provide anything for the kiddies, like schooling. And how do the wages compare with the cost of living?

eagleflyer 29th Apr 2016 22:04

From what I´ve seen it seems to be an offer some of my colleagues might find attractive, especially the younger ones in our company. No housing or schooling allowances, no paid flights home from what I saw, but the regular compensation plus the rate overtime shifts go for suggest it´s not too shabby. Shifts seem to be 6 on / 4 off, MM-LL-NN, 5-6hrs in the position per day.

Red Dragon 30th Apr 2016 05:58

No housing or schooling allowances, no paid flights home from what I saw,
That's not correct, at least in terms of Dubai. Housing allowance is paid either in your monthly salary (dans) or as a separate annual payment (Serco). Both employers pay schooling allowance however there are differences. Dans pay business class home once a year, Serco pay economy.

As has already been alluded to though, things are becoming unsettled as a result of recent decisions on working hours. A time to sit back and watch how this plays out.

GAL ANS recruiting for Abu Dhabi

GAL ANS is currently recruiting both ADC & APS rated ATCOs for roles at the various airports they provide ANS for within the UAE.
Check out the adverts on Flight Global or the GAL website.
Reason for recruitment is additional sectors, increased traffic and the planned introduction of Independent Parallel Ops at OMAA.

atcoexpert 17th May 2016 11:24

Didn't see anything on Flight Global or the GAL website. It's gal.ae right?

Voel 17th May 2016 14:55

Closing date was 08 May 2016. I guess for that reason no longer on the respective websites

Some current information on Dubai, SERCO, Abu, Bahrain and Doha.... Dubai upper mngmt (locals) has their head up....... Lowered hiring maximum age to 45. No pension, not a lot of incentives and yet they want individuals who will come and put 10-20 years in. ATCO's are starting to leave in 2's and 3's because of conditions. Wages are less then some other ME locations but living expenses incredibly high.

SERCO is pretty much a non-player now in Dubai and for a good part of ME. Why, their HR is terrible/horrible in fact, line mngmt not much better and they just haven't kept up with the times.

GAL is Abu and just forget about this location. Bottom of the pay scale, considerably less then other ME locations. They won't pay for you to go for APC's unlike the rest of the local ANS providers and everything is at your own expense for the hiring process. These guys are obviously just trying to take advantage of the desperate ones out there which will eventually backfire on them. Cost of living still very high and their pay/allowances are 20% less then Doha/Bahrain/Dubai for instance. GAL have a little more respect for this profession.

In Bahrain ATCO's seem to be the happiest bunch of the group, renumeration is good and management is cohesive.

That leaves Doha.... 3 days on and one day off (oh ok a sleep day as well that counts as your day off even though you worked till 6am that day). Yes the sleep day is found other places but when its one of four much different then one of two. Promises of raises for some time that have never happened and staffing just crazy. One controller working the unit that a minimum of three would be working in other locations. Perhaps one day someone will come and save us but for now we are just doing what we need to do.

All of these locations have some assets/positive things to offer as well and all of the above may be interpreted in different ways but the facts of them are all true and up to date.

atco1985 13th Apr 2017 14:40

Hi, I am going to attend APC in Dubai shortly, so could You tell me what to expect?

How many hours do you guys work on the ME per month on average? I mean all the real hours apart from the roster, adding up extra hours or whatever..

Also, what would be the housing costs in Dubai for instance? (in the past I heard horrible stories about paying like 6 months rent upfront the first day of the lease, but I dont know what is the current outlook). What's the average salary for an approach controller in Dubai one actually gets after deducting all the high costs of living in the ME? (maybe PM better)

Thanks!

(not asking for much, are ya ... )

Best way to get this info is to APPLY . . . . if they want you , you will get direct word on what they offer.
If you don't like what you hear, say "thanks but no thanks" . . . am positive they hear that more than you might think.

a word of waring before considering certain contracts!

Dear esteemed colleagues,
this is just a friendly word of advice to any of you out there who are toying with the idea of actually going to work for THE WORST ANS provider I've EVER had the unlucky privilege to encounter( this is of course only my and 27 other escapees opinions but backed with an accumulated experience of over 100 years, (both resignations and abscondee's in the last 9months ...!)
It's not being written to vent or as some kind of retribution ......purely as a fact based word of warning to anyone seeking a position in the sandpit.( choose wisely ....this provider has advertised recently....with a so called "competitive package" roughly translated, means......it's still THE WORST available , but we now want you to commit to a term of 2 years with us for the privledge of receiving the pay rise you should have had kanyway!! AND agree to no increment payments, whilst others do get them! For the remainder of your contract.:ugh:
It is however , very near one of the best contracts available and a major tourist/transit hub.
So just to summarise in a short table:-
Looking for a job in the sandpit..........
YES.
Choose 1 of the other ( and FAR FAR better !) contracts

then congratulate yourself, and look forward to:
Yearly pay increment
Yearly bonus.
Allowances without arguments and ON Time!
relatively stress free and happy
OR
The almost Anonymous Worst ANSP,
and look forward to

No pay increments.
NO yearly bonus(unless.
Your management)
No Leave for an average
9 months and then NOT when
You Request it.
STRESS.
Sleepless nights
Bullying
Intimidation
Living nightmare

SERIOUSLY.......are you mad???

Anyway.......I hope you get the picture.....and As I said....it's not for any retribution.....purely facts to digest....and help make an educated decision. If you still decide to wear the rose tints .......DONT SAY YOU WERN'T WARNED!!!!

Any chance youd be willing to elaborate with a few cheeky figures???

seoulcontroller 17th Sep 2017 08:43

Tks for the live info, Rotary 777!

I couldn't understand why the ANSP treats controllers like that cause their country has a lot of oil and money :-(

Bullying, intimidation ...
I couldn't even imagine what's going on there!

So Sorry to hear that!!!

Takeit from someone who has seen the place in the sun descend into the situationwhere it is now. It’s terrible, its sad and its a professional disgrace.. On the plus side, it makes for a great case study in "How to totally ruin a good business through toxic leadership, nepotism and racism"

Totake a reasonably good place to work, with imperfect, but "human"management and turn it into a place that is losing staff faster than anyone wouldhave thought possible, things are beyond bad. http://www.pprune.org/data:image/png...IKCyRTJV9JEQA7http://www.pprune.org/data:image/png...IKCyRTJV9JEQA7

Thelocals in charge are incompetent, arrogant and frankly it’s a bit of a crimethat they are in control of the business. What I am most amazed about is thatthe clear thinking intelligent leaders at the very top of the UAE aviationbusiness is not taking decisive action before the embarrassment of the currentreality has direct financial impact on the whole Emirate. Time will tell how this ends, but I dont see it going well for the current "leaders"........

Abu Dhabi

Hi, could anybody please PM me any information on Salary, living arrangements and life in Abu Dhabi? Thanks in advance.

Rotary 777 19th Sep 2017 07:22

Sandy viper......couldn't agree more!!
Maggie Island.........its no secret, Doha has best package and conditions at the mo, ...then Dubai/DWC and bottom of the pile....AD. Putting aside the the complete turmoil and staffing crisis at the moment, the company have tried to stop the exodus, and have offered a 5 K rise for a 2 years handcuffs. ( however the genius that came up with it forgot to take into account that the staff eligible for it would actually be on more now had the promised increments been honoured.........so in effect it's actually a pay cut that is being offered, rather insulting and usual management tactic of the present company( how can we screw over the grass roots staff and make it look like we are doing them a favour)

Atclinds........I assume ur still considering a position.....even after the latest info...?
There's ALWAYS one........good luck!!

Nimmer 20th Sep 2017 14:19

I have heard that 19 approach controllers have left or are in the process of leaving.

There is talk of leave being cancelled and compulsory overtime being enforced.

What is happening out there? Where are all these people going, and maybe some examples of the issues which are making people leave.

Cancelling leave and compulsory overtime will only make matters worse, especially if people have an option. Most of Europe is short of atcos at the moment area and approach. Canada has been actively recruiting too. If they carry on with their head in the sand there will be no one left. Just like ryanair:E:E:E
