They've always seemed pretty chirpy to me when I've popped in....

I know that they're directly employed by Dundee City Council, and although the headline salary doesn't look too special the working conditions are supposed to be great.

They have a varied selection of traffic; it's mainly training during the day but they do have a scheduled service to London City (Suckling/Scot Airways - six flights each way a day, I think), there are summer charters (last year 146s flying via Blackpool) and the odd business jet. Last time I was up there a couple of choppers were also sat on the apron.

It's a modern (small) airport, but very basic.

I think you'll find that after the last advert they didn't get anyone. I know of someone offered a job but the salary offered was lower was less than expected so he stayed where he was. [COLOR=royalblue]

Unfortunately Legs is right, The bod in question had everything that they were seeking and more, but the salary offered was less than their current one, and they turned it down.
Otherwise the terms and conditions (as already said) are pretty good, and it's a nice place to live and work (if not a little quiet), staff reasonably human .
Perhaps this time round Dundee City council will authorise the airport authority to jack up the scales, they won't have any problems recruiting.

Just seen the advert, even if they get a 3% pay rise it's still a crap salary.
Will the admin bean counters never learn?

Any chance of a foreigner with NZ (ICAO) license Aerodrome and Approach rated or would that require too much retraining??

Visual - to put it bluntly, no.
You'd have to get your licence converted to a UK CAA one, and the only way to so that is to do the aerodrome and approach courses in the UK, (at a cost of approximately £13k each course).
Even then it's highly likely that you would not be considered until you had validated the ratings in the UK and got yourself acouple of years experience in the UK.
Although their is a shortage of experienced fully rated ATCOs in the UK, there is no shortage of partially qualified inexperienced ones.

I think you'll find that you can do an APC (assessment of prior competence) in the UK which means that you won't have to do the whole course, just the rating exam. If you're an experienced ATCO that should be reasonably straightforward.

If that's what you're thinking of, why not give Dundee a call and ask them whether or not they'd be interested? The job ad is at:

www.dundeecity.gov.uk

just follow the links to vacancies.

I followed the links, purely out of idle curiosity, and was intrigued by part of the job spec:-

Sorry, forgot about the assesment for prior competence, however this (as I understand it), only gives you a maximum exemption of 50% from each course, so anyone applying would still have to do the aerodrome and approach courses, albeit at a reduced length.

By "Various Duties" they mean all the ancillary niff naff and trivia of running the airport in the absence of the airport manager or SATCO.
Dundee airport employ nearly all the staff on the airfield, atco's, fire persons, check in/handling and security, so someone has to be the head honcho.
Which makes the salary offered all the more lamentable given the extra responsibilities.
