SID Climb Phraseology
I'm sure this has been covered but a search has been fruitless so would someone be kind enough to clarify the letter of the law regarding the differences between climb and climb direct on a SID. I downloaded CAP 413 edition 20 but I can't see a reference...or am I just an idiot?
Thanks.
Thanks.

This one again!
Basically, (in the UK) if ATC want you to climb above the SID profile, the phrase "climb now altitude/flight level <insert altitude/flight level>". There was an IN on this subject, not sure if it has yet been incorporated into the MATS Part 1 yet.

'Climb unrestricted' is the ICAO standard phraseology so occasionally some overseas crews will question the 'Climb now' UK deviation. Typically late at night, if you hear obviously non-native pilots who are trying hard to give 'proper' RT, it can make things a lot simpler to just use 'Climb unrestricted'.
Neither party wants to waste the other's time asking for further clarification!

Reference for the UK difference is AIC Y 023/2010.
An incredibly stupid change to ICAO phraseology which the UK quite rightly recognised as such. Now if they would just do the same with EASA.....
