Flight Following
Surely not the first time this topic is posted, sorry.
Flying with flight following (US airspace), final destination a class "D" airport.
When the last ATC ask me to switch to the K*** tower (destination airport), is this tower aware of who I am, what my position is and that I'm inbound to land, or do I have to start with the 4 "W" at the first contact with the tower ?
Thanks !

This will give you everything you need and more. Im sure there will be many who would give a simple answer but I think it will be of great benefit to have a full and clear understanding of the benefits to a VFR pilot.

That's right.
So there are "only" two possibilities :
1. At initial contact, tower's answering you : " N*****, go ahead", so you know you have to tell the whole "routine",
2. Tower's answering you : "N****, report left base runway 36", so you know you're in the tower's radar "system".

Not necessarily accurate. Depends on what the pilot says on initial contact with the tower. For example, if the pilot states his/her intention to land on initial call to the tower you could get either...
1) "...go ahead." or
2) "...enter left base for runway 36."
In general, only aircraft on an IFR flight plan are required to be coordinated with the tower.
(But there are instances where radar controllers coordinate with the tower because of things like "Letters of Agreement" and "Standard Operating Procedures" [between controllers]. They are NOT published for pilots. These are usually developed with regard to controller workload and volume of traffic.)

flight following is only "flight following" which means the controller will issue traffic advisories as his workload permits. you've got to remember your still flying 'VFR" and are still responsible for your own safety and separation... aircraft flying IFR receive priority handling over any flight following advisories you might receive as a VFR aircraft...
Also to answer your question, does the tower know who I am when being transferred to the tower during flight following "NO" all the controller did was cancel your flight following and advised you to maintain 'VFR" and contact the tower on whatever frequency he gave you...

Thanks to all of you.
It is effectively rather logical to figure out that since the ATC tells you : "N****, radar service terminated, squawk VFR, frequency change approved", there's no automatic transfert of duty between the ATC and the destination tower.
The only precaution I will take, when living KDAB ATC for KOMN tower, is warning the tower I'm just leaving KDAB approach frequency to justify I'm calling them so close (less than 5 miles) of the airport.
