Not necessarily accurate. Depends on what the pilot says on initial contact with the tower. For example, if the pilot states his/her intention to land on initial call to the tower you could get either...

1) "...go ahead." or

2) "...enter left base for runway 36."

In general, only aircraft on an IFR flight plan are required to be coordinated with the tower.

(But there are instances where radar controllers coordinate with the tower because of things like "Letters of Agreement" and "Standard Operating Procedures" [between controllers]. They are NOT published for pilots. These are usually developed with regard to controller workload and volume of traffic.)
