A uniform would be highly unlikely purely because it would have to come out of someone's budget, although nats does have a lot of spare candy lying around after robbing us blind with the......... different debate.
Air22-various managers have tried to re-instate a dress code every now and then. If it ever happened then every oxfam shop in the country would sell out of big kipper ties and frilly seventies shirts

Interesting thoughts.I assume you haven't been in a huge traffic load when you would rather be naked in front of the screen than wearing a tie.
The day I get to wear a suit and I tie at work is the day when I will quit ATC.
Standard ATC uniform should be shorts and a shirt(even in winter conditions).
Cheers all.

I hear at the new Prestwick Centre a dress code is going to be introduced.....long dresses for ATSA's, mini's for ATCO's and shorts for TMA controllers??

I HAVE EPILETTES GODAMMIT
I remember hearing a story many years ago, from Gerry Wigglesworth, of someone (at Preston?) submitting a claim for torn clothing and requesting a replacement being issued with a "dustcoat, brown, storemen for the use of,".

I suggest the company crest should be crossed turds with a blowfly cluster.
What about a range of campaign ribbons and medals.
Olympics in London in 2012 should surely be a campaign medal.
What about sitting between two Approach controllers who had dodgy vindaloo the night before, meritorious service?
What would constitute the ATC equivalent of the VC?
Maybe ceremonial swords to be broken over the knee, in case of extreme stuff-up.

When I first worked in Guernsey the controllers had uniforms complete with the desirable stripey epaulettes AND a peaked hat. The then Airport Commandant (there's a clue to the ethos of the place) had scrambled egg on his as well. I seem to recall that they also had a shirt and shoe allowance. The whole thing died a death as various scruffs like me were recruited from the UK. The whole idea had only one benefit - it saved the wear and tear on your own clothes.

Remember Kenny Everett with his micky take of an American general? He had 12" (at least) extensions to each shoulder just to take the medals, and rings all the way up each arm! I bet some senior controllers would end up looking the same way!

This one raises its head every so often but I'm surprised that it has come up now in the penny pinching enviroment we are working in.
The first time I came across the suggestion (in a unit far far away) it was universally supported by some very senior controllers with one proviso - everyone got to wear 5 bars on their shoulders. The idea was dropped quite quickly after that.
