A scruffy ATCO? Surely not!!
Back in the late 70s.. I was in London to sit ATPL writtens... accompanied by a BHX ATCO doing the same. Walking between tube stations we stopped and sat on a low wall to take a break.... at which point his pompom hat fell to the footpath. So scruffy was my companion that passers-by started dropping coins into his hat!! No names here eh Eugene?

It`s obligatory to wear in Ukraine. consists of dark-black suit, blue shirt and stupid tie.
ones u appear at work without any part of uniform - your supervisor>>you will have only 80% of salary for the next month
can`t say that it`s comfortable to sit and to sweat for hours in it.

Due to inevitable fire risk, any uniform would have to be natural - wool, cotton or silk, to fit in with the PC fire risk strategy.
Man made materials (with a flashpoint close to that of paper) might be prone to spontaneous combustion, with the inevitable production of noxious toxic fumes (particularly if worn by pikeys).
Expect a well researched company notice on this imminently.

More than just an ATCO

Traffic Traffic as you know I need the slings over my shoulders to hold up the weight of the equipment.
Eric that's your mother you're thinking about. When you look in the mirror don't you see we look alike?

"I was wondering why a standard uniform has never been established for controllers to wear?....with it's own epaulette system! One stripe for trainee's, two for ATCO's, three for SATCO's etc. "
I think that in the past EGNT and IAL (OMAA/OMDB etc.) had uniforms, which were awful. So, in 2009 the answer is simple: nobody would wear it .

Uniforms for controllers

Hi guys.

During the years before WW2 a great debate took place within the Air Ministry as how the "Controllers" at Croydon should be perceived.

It was decided that as the pilots had uniforms that confirmed their status the ATC bods should have the same.

A uniform was designed and 10 wire badges were made to enhance their uniforms.

However, due to restrictions placed on the budget of the ATC service they were never implemented.

If you want to know more, ask me.
