Irish Class C Airspace
Class C states min 5km vis, 1500m Horizontally and 1000ft Vertically clear of cloud. if planning entry into a CTR with for example 10km vis but cloud ceiling at 1600ft does it mean transit through the zone must be flown at 600ft to comply with this rule?? this obviously would not be practical and no one does this but what is the offical line on it? thanks.

Do you really need an answer to this. Use a bit of common sense. DW's regs say 1200' twin or 1700' single engine. But still must comply with min heights over populated areas. The rules you refer to are to comply with VFR, if the weather is such that you can't, ask for SVFR clearance - Clear of Cloud + in sight of surface

I was referring to VFR sorry i didnt specify. untill below 1500ft or below 5km Vis a SVFR clearance is not required. everyone fly's around clipping the base of clouds in class C VFR and yes that is common sense or other wise there would never be any VFR flying in this country(due crap wx). but my question is it technically legal because no where in irish law that i can find does it state you must request SVFR if you cant maintain 1000ft below the cloud base when inside class C. irish law states clear of cloud and in sight of the surface when below 3000ft in class G not Class C. i posted this question in the ATC section in the hope i would get a definitive answer to this from ye guys. it is reasonable question which must have a legal answer somwhere!
