CA

Hows it going in the frozen wastelands? Sounds like you may have had enough of those wonderfull spring temps

Whatever it worked out to be in Kiwi, it had to be more than the 2 year agreement (year 1, 5%. Year 2, 2%, adjusted CPI, full superability, NZ$4000.00 lump sum ((for staying)) payable 01.07.08 - LOL) that Uncle Ashley and Aunty Airways is offering. Oh yes and year 1 backdated to 01.04.07.

Serco have just set the new benchmark for ATCO salaries, and those ANS providers that don't believe it, well at your own peril guys, and on that note, CA, do what I understand the rest of the CH centre is doing, get your CV out and in on the wait list. Mine is and so are most of the other people's I work with here.

Cheers

SAS

P.S.
Hey Fox3 - you even slightly tempted?

Tempted, weeell.....nah! I am conducting a liver recovery program at moment, living in Dubai would possibly induce a complete collapse!!

Love visiting Dubai and catching up with the gang, but love getting out of the traffic carnage and the construction debacle just as quick, home to my nice cosmopolitan Abu Dhabi residence and lifestyle.

Now Jebal Ali, thats a different story.....

Hi,

is it still Rick Sharpe who's in charge for serco employment down there? If not, would someone mind to mail me the contact details for DXB TWR?

Thanks, Spike

The nearest thing I can find to official contact details are on this link:

http://www.serco.com/contact/middleeast/index.asp

However I'm sure others have better contacts they could provide.

Fujairah

Does anyone knows about ATC in Fujairah. I was also offered a job there with 29000 AED without housing allowence and everything else is plus. Is this enough?
No radar I suppose. And will there be a radar in the near future?

Nodi - Fujairah

Nodi

all ATC Units have all their own seperate contracts, so be prepared that what one unit offers, the other will surely not be the same!

Fujairah - It is definitely not run by SERCo, like the majority of other units here.

As a place or if you call Fujairah a 'City', Fujairah is much more quieter than Dubai, Abu Dhabi & Sharjah, & also in ATC Terms of Traffic!

However I would put it 'on par' with Ras Al Khaimah in both senses, though if I were to choose I'd go for RAK.

Besides I heard some 'funny-weird' stories from ex-Staff at FUJ. Of course, with all due respect to FUJ, some people who leave their previous jobs 'burn their bridges' unfortunately!

So, I suggest if you really want to join any ATC Unit here, just visit the place first, so you wont believe anything that is promised before you sign, at least you can see it with your own eyes prior joining!

Up to now FUJ are TWR only with APP Procedural, maybe in the future they start to 'work their own traffic by radar', as lately it was rumoured, that a low cost Start-Up is about to be launched!

Each & every Emirates is competing with each other to improve, so hopefully this materialises!

For FUJ, try this link, maybe you get somwhere;

Good Luck

Some Replies from the sandpit

Applications and enquiries for jobs in Dubai are usually emailed to:
[email protected] . I don't know who takes care of recruitment but if you put ATCO as a subject it should get to its intended destination.

Bikkerdennah: considering the extras you get and the amount of workload taken off your shoulders by your autopilot and us controllers perhaps you are already overpaid!! (just joking mate, would like to see you at our ops on a busy night though).

FUJAIRAH:is ok cos its not that busy (people wipe off cobwebs at the end of the shift) and Fuj is upcoming but still way out. The city is small with little in terms of entertainment and mostly dry. I guess with that pay you would be left with at least 18000 in your pocket which is not bad but remember, no pension no benefits no nothing, so think about it. It all depends on what you are looking for and what suits you. Maybe you should go there and see if you like it. It takes about an hour and a half to get to Dubai and the coast is pretty especially to the north.

Fujairah

If you were offered 29k in Fujairah on top of housing, be sure to get that in writing. Latest contract that I heard was 25k a month including everything, meaning you have to pay for housing, medical insurance, air tickets etc from that salery.
Fujairah city is growing fairly repidly with not enough new accomodation, so finding an apartment can be difficult, and if you want anything with some standards you are looking at 5-6000 dirhams a month.
Staffing in Fujairah today is only 5 people on the roster, including the manager, so noone has beel allowed to take any leave since February.
There are however 5 local trainees and 7 newly arrived controllers training for validation (2 serbs, 1 romanian, 2 bahrainins, 1 from Mauritus and one from the Seychelles if I remember correctly), but with only 2 of current staff allowed to give training it is going to take some time to get all of them valid.
Radar is instlled with all the latest updates, and running nicely, but has not been approved for use by GCAA yet, rumor has it they are waiting with that untill they have enough staff to man it.
Traffic in Fujairah is not as quiet as you would believe, a local flying school is keeping the circuit busy, and with the new VOR finally installed they are getting busy accomodating military trainers as well, and they have quite a lot of cargo flights, so do not expect to get any sleep on night shifts.

If you want any more info, send me a pm and I will point you in the direction of one of the two only westerners working there

Fujairah

Hey guys,
As you can see, english is not my mother language, can you please explain thoose phrases like "'burn their bridges' and what do you mean by "that a low cost Start-Up is about to be launched!
And for Falcon's reply what is "(people wipe off cobwebs at the end of the shift)??
And thank you for your replys, I appreciate it very much.

Wiping off cobwebs

Meaning the place is not busy. Low-cost airlines are like Ryanair, Easyjet etc. who are starting to operate (meaning start-up) from Fujairah. To burn bridges means to leave your current employment for good without having the opportunity to go back if things go wrong. I also have heard strange unhappy stories about Fujairah especially regarding leave and imposed extra duties so watch out. I am sure the pay is better than yours at home at the moment but it won't take you far. I agree with was written above and RAK is surely a much better option.

I'd rather be a sheep, than a salmon!!!!!!!!!

If you are approach trained and half ways decent, go to Dubai and take the big bucks. BAH and ABU centres will always play little brother dispite the workload and until a big shake up comes.......expect nothing different. But it does appear that recruitment standards are being bent to make numbers(5 years experience???!!!????). But then again, as we know, experience at unit counts for nothing anymore!!!!!!
Bitter......not yet!

Fujairah

Just to clarify the situation at Fujairah. The 29,000AED per month was hoped for but didn't arrive. Present max is 25,000AED including accomodation allowance (4,000AED - enough for a very large two bedroom modern apartment) medical cover and other allowances. Staffing levels are now full with the seven controllers that have just arrived.

Cost of living in FUJ is very, very low compared to DXB.

FUJ is TWR / APP Procedure at the moment. Radar is up and running and hopefully controllers will be using it as APR in 2008.

Mr. Ron

Your question should be "is the regional ATM network geared up and ready for Jebal Ali?"

And the answer is quite simply,

No
