You need an approach or tower rating to be considered for Dubai. The area rating would gain you eligibility for the ACC in Abu Dhabi.

I believe there are no AREA controllers in Dubai. The Area is controlled from elsewhere (Abu Dhabi I think) and only TWR/APP is done from Dubai.

Probably not an option (though maybe a local can confirm) to get into APP/TWR without relevant experience as Dubai is busy stuff.

ps Not a local so hope this is right!

Blue is correct.

Approach or Tower at Dubai. Area in Abu Dhabi or if you want to work for peanuts there is always Muscat.

We've had area rated controllers in the past (also recently) with no or very little APP experience, but one would think that those days are gone now, at least for a wee while.

Congrats on the payrise guys (and gals) , long overdue

Is it really enough though, bearing in mind cost of living etc? It's almost enough to make me think about coming back but I still shudder at the thought of the commute. Bring on the Metro!

I've also heard that most new arrivals are being streamed tower OR approach as opposed to both - any comments?

Enjoy the extra Dirhams in the pocket while it lasts.......

p.s. anyone able to put me in touch with GB (ex RAK and Luxembourg) - lost his email a while ago. Thanks.

Metro should be ready within 2 years...THEY SAY....

As you might predict, any date set is always delayed.......In WHATEVER is set!! So dont be surprised with ANY delay!!

But this time SERCo have got it RIGHT-BIG TIME...at last!

Cost of living / Inflation yearly, if not monthly on the rise with Increase in prices of this or that....

Tax-FREE

Hidden Taxes alll along.........

But this payrise is a DEFINITE PLUS to keep up with the daily costs here!!

AREA Rated ATCOs? Well OMDB / DXB being ONLY TWR/APP Unit, so obviously TWR or APP or even both are minimum Requirements, however if you have AREA Rating as well, it could help, but Im sure you'd understand what I've stated here.

Re pay packet, each unit has its own contract, therefore, OMDB has its own which is different to OMAA APP or OMAE Centre!! So whoever gets a raise substantial or not, it surely does not effect the other units, though if a good raise is announced, adjacent sectors could voice their concern to get osmthing similiar.....

re Mr.GB...well if you have a sort of loss of sep, I'm sure you'll get easily 'in touch' with GB....

Unless, sooner rather than later you'll find him in the OPS Room as the next SUP.....

And guys & gals.....be prepared the Waiting List is surely getting longerrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr

Tin Bullet - Thanks for the response - glad to know that morale's finally improving. I may just have to come over for a visit to see if it's worth coming back - even the wife's starting to consider the possibility!!
Re Mr. GB - I thought he would be getting involved with Jebel Ali - seems like his sort of project! Please pass on regards to him, PM(kiwi) et al.
Must go and see just how much that villa would cost.......

p.s. just had a look on google maps - is that the metro costruction site, right next to the compound?

The Metro is across SZR from Palma Springs.

According to RTA it should stretch from Rashidiya down to the New Jebel Ali Mega Airport... ONE DAY......when finished....

So if your'e coming up from Abu Dhabi through SZR, you'll see the Metro Line all along on your right hand side.....

There surely gonna be two 'Station stops' not far from Palma Springs, but of course across SZR......

About morale......difficult to say, some people have realised that the way to go forward is to have a more 'open' mentality,, but some old dogs are still the same....

What needs to be changed for sure is the 'Finger Pointing' atttitude, & stuff GCAA on the side!

Thanks Mr Prowler - time for me to get back on topic again, so here are a few more questions:-
1. If I understand correctly, inflation/cost of living is covered within the deal, is this correct?
2. All the above refers to "new starters" - what kind of progression exists nowadays?
3. What's the medical cover like? When I left, it was being "played with" in an effort to reduce costs. What gives now? Is a top-up available and if so, how much?
4. Given the ballistic growth of road traffic, how long does it take to get to/from work from palma springs these days? Is the voyager (or it's replacement) still on the go and what's the parking situation?
5. Can anyone confirm that new arrivals are being strictly streamed for tower OR approach?
6. Is there still SORAS or something similar, or just the gratuity?
Sorry for the deluge but the sandpit just got a whole lot more interesting!!
Cheers!

Edited for memory loss

Currency conversion

Google currency conversion and many easy to use sites come up. I translated into $AUS and worked it out to about 180 - 200k depending on personal situation.

Blue
ps Huge congrats on the payrise

Currency Conversion - ACCURACY

Conflict Alert;

Ummm.....what did I say to make you think that. Frankly you come across as a complete pillock!
I'm not trying to be the Devil's Advocate, but you are the one who needs the info FROM US, so being lazy, or immune to online currency conversions AND acting like a complete pillock, is not gonna help make your life easier..to obtain the ACCURACY you REQUEST...

So chill out mate, if you need the info FROM US, dont piss in the water you WANA DRINK From!!

Come on be nice guys he just wanted some info.

Conflict Alert, I did the currency exchange for you, and in Kiwi Currency it's 20 romantic nights with a freshly shorn ewe plus an added allowance of a couple of dirty encounters behind the shearing shed with a horny ram.

Hope that helps.

If not go to www.xe.com and whack in 50,000 AED and see what it tells you in the end box.

Prowler, I think you have the wrong end of the stick here. Your right...I did request some information, after all this is a forum for that purpose. As there are a number of kiwi's working overthere, I thought perhapes one of them might be able to provide the info. What I didn't expect was an unprovoked attack by this Falcon who was just blantantly downright rude. There was absolutely no reason for Falcons response to my question. All this serves to do is to put people off participating in a forum.

Conflict Alert;

Lets get to from where you started;

Can someone please convert this to kiwi $$$$$

if its more than 200k can I have a contact please?

To be honest with you I would never believe that a person who is an ATCO DOES NOT HAVE the I.Q. or, have this sort of brainer to ask a question like this....

As ATCO's we should not assume, but let me give you the benefit of the doubt, that to 'use' a forum, that is read, then register, sign in & then post, it takes more 'energy' than to browse on the web, to find a currency converter......

What The Falcon & docliter posted varies a little, so I am here with you on this, but all this depends on your marital status, kids or no kids, schooling etc etc.... So yes, definitely the total varies a little. But the total varies between AED520,000 & AED580,000 approximately!! So a little bit here & a little bit there is not going to make much difference, when one considers that it is approximately an 80% raise in total!!

Of course the More the Merrier!!

Prowler, I think you have the wrong end of the stick here.

Do you really think I have the wrong end of the stick here? AGAIN you got it all wrong mate!! If I need some info from a particular ATCOs from an ATC Unit I want to join, then the last thing I would want, is to start on a bad note, by calling people names etc etc.....

If you dare to go further, then maybe you can do that after you get what you want...Even though both dont make sense!!

As there are a number of kiwi's working overthere, I thought perhapes one of them might be able to provide the info.

What makes you think I am not a kiwi? And what makes you think that any kiwi will log on here or even be able to provide you with such info??

All this serves to do is to put people off participating in a forum.

PPRUNE sheds some light to certain delicate info which one can hardly have access to certain info from any particular ATC Unit, so its better we all keep it this way, but having said this, no one asks anybody to log on, or to read the threads or even to post! So this is all a matter of personal choice & some free time (off days), LIKE we have in Dubai.....

Come on guys lets keep these threads & forums for what they are all about & we dont need the ping pong name calling!!

We are all after GOOD JOBS with GOOD CONDITIONS with GOOD SALARIES!! lets hope all get what what they desire!!

Right.......I know what the conversion rate is, I know how to find it, and I know how to use the computer! My original question, which I may have worded poorly, was to find out if someone could give me the salary package in kiwi terms as the figures (AED) varies depending on who is answering the question and locally back here figures being mentioned have large discrepencies. All I was after was an accurate figure from someone working over there.

But the total varies between AED520,000 & AED580,000 approximately!!
Thankyou..I guess in a roundabout way this is what I was after - an accurate figure to work with.

If I need some info from a particular ATCOs from an ATC Unit I want to join, then the last thing I would want, is to start on a bad note, by calling people names etc etc
Aint me that started the attack!!

Couldn't agree more..hence my suprise at Falcons response to my original question.

However, as my question seems to have caused so much grief for some of you, I have removed it.

Poorly worded

Yes, I think it was very poorly worded. I hope you find the answers you want in this forum and since you have removed your posts I gladly removed mine. Being cynical about grief is superfluous. My only grief is when they take money from my pocket not this forum mate. As I said before I would gladly help anyone wanting info if reasonable and that's the way it should be.
