Leeds Bradford LARS?

Just a matter of interest. What is the explaination for the lack of LARS service from Leeds Bradford. This results in a "gap" in coverage for this part of Northern England.

Also, can GA VFR traffic request a FIS from Leeds (workload permitting) in the Vale of York area when the Military LARS'S are off watch?

Leeds are not paid to provide LARS, therefore any service that they may provide outside CAS will be secondary to their primary objective of vectoring and sequencing their own traffic.

Traffic permitting they may provide a service, however if they decline then call one of the other promulgated LARS units in the area, DTV and Humberside being the only two civil units.

Fake, as Perusal says, Leeds are not paid to provide LARS and are usually far too busy to even provide an FIS.

Bear in mind that if the Mil LARS are not working then its very unusual that there will be significant Military activity in the "Valley of Death" as their operating hours usually coincide.

Other than that, DTV radar is available H24 for the task and their radar coverage just about overlaps with Bumbleside's.

Leeds Bradford always provides fis/ris/ras ( yes it may be limited ) to any A/C that calls 24/7. EGNM is not a LARS service provider. They just have controllers who r prepared to make an effort. All u have to do is call

i think i prefer the controllers at leeds to most other controllers in the area
they do try to help not like some ,at fenton i think they only know one reply
keep 3 miles away from the overhead [thats when they are busy 1 tutor in the circuit .

Besides, like Friio4 says, surely there's a way to vent your spleen without incurring the wrath of the mods (assuming that venting something is what you were alluding to?)

They can instruct you to remain outside the ATZ (2.5 nms I believe) or maybe the "3 miles from the overhead" is a standard call to all aircraft because of the close proximity of SIE to Church Fenton and the propensity for (ahem, those less experienced/gifted GA pilots) to occasionally fly through the CF visual circuit.

Been there seen it...... white Hughes 500 cross the Rwy threshold at 500ft in front of a landing aircraft!! Helicopter subsequently violated Leeds and Carlisle airspace afterward!

MD600. As always, 2 Sides to every story - the tone of your post is somewhat bombastic and naive - although I'm sure you are not. As airspace becomes more and more crowded we need to show greater understanding of each other’s operations (get away from the old MY airspace mentality) and the SMALL part we each play in the ever changing story that is the 'moving maggots' on the radar screen!
