Radar requirements for ATC

Looking for a useful link to check what are the operational requirements for ATC radar. Will be getting radar in 2 years time and we need to write the ops specifications for that. Many thanks

It depends by what you mean by "operational requirements". CAP670 uses the term a lot and talks about probability of detection of a target against the operational requirement blah but that is about as much as they say. Obviously, if the purchasing agency then gets it wrong it is their issue, not CAA or SRG. Goal based standard not a prescriptive one.

In the UK, the contractor responsible for the project will also be responsible for these requirements, I assume and hope that this is the same in your case.

Hi guys, thanks a lot for your input. I guess the contractor will only install the radar we require. Since we have no radar experience (I worked as a radar controller many years back) and that we are working in a procedural environment, we need to tell the contractor what our ATC requiremenst are. I guess it will be difficult for the contractor to determine that. I still need to look at those two links provided, but I guess that will give us enough info

Radar reqiurements

Hi
It is very important for you to specify exactly what you want to be done by contractor. I past through process of writting Operational concept, requirements, technical specifications (that is complete circuit what you have to do) for new ATC system in my country.
I would help you more but information that you need radar does not tell me a lot.
What kind of radar, PSR, SSR, combined?
What for are you going to use it, TWR/GND, APP, ACC?
What is situation wint your neighbours for radar data exchange?
Is it going to be connected with FDPS to provide you some ATC tools and SNETS?
What concept of ATC Operations you are going to have after you implement new radar if you are procedural now?
And many more questions?? that you need to answer.
The more you specify it in details the better product and service you are going to get from contractor.
I am ATCO and was doing both procedural and radar ATC, last years involved in ATM systems definition and implementation. You may contact me on PM if you like.
Ciao

Cool Sun rising?!

It is nice to see that two guys from South Europe know something about ATC. Does it mean that sun is rising again?
Best regards for Japanac and Jovica
