Pearls of wisdom

Anybody have any, that they live by or that see them safely through their working day, humorous or serious...

Personally, I believe in 'Never refuse a break or an early-go, because you can't have an airprox sitting in front of the telly'.

And one from a colleague:

'Better a lucky controller than a skilful one'

"It's not how good you are that counts. It's how good you sound!"

And its corollary:

"You can vector them straight to hell, if you sound like you know what you're doin'"

About vectoring from an "old and bold" back in my shrimp boat days;

"If you point 'em at each other then they won't hit, except if they're nose to nose"

For the Flows: "Never let the sector vector"

The following is in nautical miles...

"Aim for 3, get 2, call it 5."

For Jerricho and others in Winterpeg...

"Don't eat the yellow snow."

When on a break, reading Transmit or similar while sitting on porcelain...

"If in doubt, take another wipe."

Continuing the toilet theme:

'Always go to the loo at the start of your break 'cos you never know when you'll be called back'

and one from a fellow colleague, which could apply to lots of situations in life:

'You think I know bug**r nothing but that's not true, I know bug**r all' (Cheers, Bob)

OCWATO separation standard

While going through my course in Cornwall (Canada, that is). One of my fellow students made the following remark after being rebuked while on a non-radar exercise.

He was supposed to use 10 minutes between airplanes but when one declared an emergency, even though there was only 8 minutes he "broke vertical" and got the emergency aircraft down.

When the instructor told him he'd had a sep-loss, he just yelled:

"OH! COME ON!!! WHAT ARE THE ODDS??!!"
