Crazy Voyager: yeah, perhaps. The thing is, I do remember someone telling me that when they took the test, also a very small numbere didn't pass the first part. I don't know then.
Changing subject, you are now in college or waiting to be awarded a starting date, could it be?.
HeaVn: I can't really remember. I think the problems used knots (speed measurement) and nautical mile (distance measurement).

sat stage 1 yesterday afternoon and was a mixed bag really...
found the initial test (ATC and numeracy) very easy and was shocked at the amount of people who were asked to leave.
Diagramming was okay, but cubes were pretty hard...
only answered 36/50 on diagramming and 25/40 on cubes so bit worried really , although guys around me answered similar amounts, anyone know if this is normal?
good luck everyone

These questions about distance between airports concern only the British airports, that "use" NATS as the service provider? You have to memorize the distance and the questions are to test our knowledge? It's not like you are given a map, scale and you are supposed to estimate it?

No, you aren't given a map or anything at that. Straight forward question on distance. I can't really remember what cities they asked. But I think they were within the U.K's territory. I think I recall on of them being Manchester and Newcastle, but don't take much notice. The purpose of this type of question, since unpredicted, (as it does't come on the leaflet) I think is to measure some other skill. However, don't screw about these distance questions, there were only a couple or so, and they were not difficult.

well... :)
I see what you mean. D/S/T calcs won't be a problem for me, but since I am not british I sure would have more trouble "knowing" the apox distance between city pairs... I think its of to UK geography for me now...

Hiya!
Sat the S1 on the 14th @ 13:45. We were 40 people aprox and something like 12 were invited to go to another room. I reckon I was a bit worried despite ending the test with good sensations. (It was the only test I actually got to finish and then go over some questions I had doubts about)
Does anyone know if NATS reply within 15 days or do they actually do so before?
Good luck to everyone,
cheers.

mishaastoroth: Yeah, you are provided with scrap paper if needed. But let me say, that if you have to use it, you are definetly busted, unless used for a specific operation. They are looking for maximum speed, wich can only be acquired mentally, coz if you have to turn to scrap paper, how ever fast you could be, it's never going to be fast enough. But remember, you aren't expected to answer to whole 20 to pass.

@MountainSide
Im not British either, that's why it would sure be a problem, apart from London, Liverpool, Menchester and now since im going there for the interview Southampton i have no idea about UK's geography, also im used to metric system, it's not a problem in V/D/T calculations since it doesnt matter what units im operating on while calculating, but when estimating discance from one city to the other it does. I'm not worring about it that much, but still it's field I could loose some points.

I used the scrap paper for the maths questions and I still passed. I'm a visual thinker, in that sometimes I have to write something down, maybe in a different way to be able to solve it. It may even be a way to calm the nerves.
I answered all the other questions and came back to the maths ones. That way I could take more time, work them through correctly and thoroughly and not have any remaining questions nagging at me and panicking me.

When I did my first Stage 1 back in 2010 I did all of the papers...along with only three others. 4 out of 25 or so were asked to stay - 84% didn't make that cut in my session. I figured that was standard but I guess not reading back. I used the scrap paper too. From memory it was more to confirm calculations after I'd answered the questions at the end of the paper since I had a few minutes.
On a slightly different note that may seem absurd to some / most / ALL of you, I've got my second whack at Stage 1 this Thursday (10:45am) but here's the kicker...I've never even flown before! I doubt this affects my standing at all but just thought I'd share.

I did my online test on the 6th of September and I still haven't heard back regarding Stage 1. Are they still inviting people? Does it mean I've failed? I didn't find it too hard, I may have got 2 or 3 wrong.

@sorinc03 don't worry, they will get back to you with a result. It may take time but I'm sure they havn't forgotten, and I have never heard of someone not being informed of failing (nor have I heard of anyone failing before stage 1).
@therealist IIRC I managed all of the diagrams and left 3 or 4 cubes, but that's not saying it's what is needed to pass. Just do your very best and hope for the best, that's all you can do really...

Hello everyone.
Completed my stage one on 3rd September, and found out I passed on Friday 14th September - a few days less than the 15 working days they said.
I've got my stage 2 tests on Friday 28th Sept, but unlike the first tests, NATS give no information as to what the tests are, other than 'computer tests'. Does anyone know what sort of tests they are? I've been back a several pages to see if anyone has said what they are, but I've not really found much.
Obviously I don't want to know all details (I've always had the idea that you should be able to do these tests without that much practice) but a general idea would be nice.
Thanks!
Also - @sorinc03 - I got the invite a few days after completing the online test. I sent an email to HR and asked them if they had my results. Don't know if that was being too pushy, but it might be worth you doing the same.
@therealist - I managed all diagrams (I used the rough paper a lot for those), but left a few cubes out towards the end. I wanted to be sure of my answers, and didn't want to guess completely at random - the few I guessed on were ones where I was 70%+ certain. Wasn't sure if it would do more harm than good to guess completely!

Hi, I went to the assessment day on Friday, got an invitation to the next round today. Was wondering if anyone knew what form the computer tests for stage 2 take and if there is anywhere to practice for them?
