NATS interview process

In relation to the S/D/T calculations, I am not sure how much importance there is on converting between Nautical Miles and Standard Miles.

As you would work in the unit of measurement given in the question itself. So if the distance is expressed as NM, the answer will be in NM and Vice Versa.

The obvious exception to the rule will be the ones asking for the conversion between the two measurements of distance.

Having said that, I haven't done stage one so am not completely up to speed with the types of questions asked. So if someone can correct me, that would be most appriciated, mainly so i can get practicing lol

Thanks for the help, apparently they've "reset my application" and I've recieved the invitation for the online tests, so I'll do them in the morning when I'm a little more alert.

Thanks for the info on the proceedure, it is indeed my second application, I got through all the stages until the interview, and basically I needed better examples so hopefully with another year of working I'll be able to impress more.

I was hoping I'd be able to avoid doing all the tests again, especially with me living in the North East, it's quite a drive to get to any NATS centre, and a really long one to get down to the CTC for final two stages.

Like you said though, hopefully worth it in the end!

Where abouts are you in this application, and what did you fail on last time if you don't mind me asking.

Speed distance time calculations

Hey guys

Im pretty cool with doing the speed distance time stuff.... however, i get stuck when some crazy division is needed.....

E.G - At 9 mph, how long does it take to travel 6 miles?

Now, I know that the answer is 40MPH ( I used a calculator.. ) however, how on earth do you find the mile per minute in your head, as this requires you to do 9/60 (0.15)..... If anyone has a really simple way of doing this, please share. I have stage one on the 5/11/10!!!! thanks

6 miles at 9 mph....?

speed = distance/time

time = distance/speed

time = 6/9 hours = 2/3 hours....or 40mins....

At 12 mph, how far do you travel in 3 hours and 40 mins?

That is then 12 x 220, which comes to 2640

Then 2640/60 = 44 miles...

I can do it, but just not in my head... can someone write down how to get this answer an easier way???

hope this would help,it depends on the choices it should be less than an hour,since travelling at 9miles/hour at 6miles.but if the choices are somewhat all less than an hour,we should do sambartran's method if estimation doesn't apply , but i'm still studying on documents,hope all of you post some helpful advise.thanks-DJ1425.

3 hours is gonna get you 36 miles, right?

then 40 mins will get you another 2/3rds of your 12 miles per hour. So 8

44 being the total

@12mph it takes 36miles in 3 hours.
40/60 2/3 of 12 = 8
36+8 = 44miles

However, can someone apply the same logic to this time one...


At 18 mph, how long does it take to travel 30 miles?

so... 1hr is 18 miles... leaves 12 miles...

Again i can do this on the calculator as 30/18 x 60 to get the answer but since NATS are horrible human beings... we cant use them ( Lol )....

18/3 = 6 making 6 miles every 20 mins because a third of an hour is 20mins... so the remaining 12 miles is (12/2= 6) two times 20 mins making 40mins. Add that to the 1 hour = 1hr 40mins

Hi guys I know this sounds like a stupid question and I was wondering if any one knows the pass percentage on the internet test thing? been doing it and seem to be doing ok on first 2/3 then badly the last two getting two or three wrong each time. Any advice? Please

Hello guys, i'm taking the exams at stage 1 on 28th this month and, to be honest, i'm a bit lost 'cos i don't know what the first phase looks like. If somebody could tell what kind of exercises are part of that stage, i'd be really thankful.
