Heard yesterday that the notion to bypass the college might have been dropped. Various courses are proposed, ranging from 3 to 16 weeks, depending on the outcome of the TNA (training needs analysis) of each applicant.

BOK, you guys have nothing to fear from the Australian ex-pat controller discussion. There aren't enough of them to fill the gap in Australia, they still need to recruit foreign controllers as well. It's workplace politics behind the decision not to employ the Australians with Area ratings.
An intelligent person would have seen that re-employing the Australians immediately on the top salary with a short training course (because they don't need a full course) is cheaper than spending a fortune trying to find enough controllers to take a lower salary, trying to get approval from the Australian Government to recruit the foreign controllers and paying a significant legal bill fighting a legal battle to stop a number of controllers walking out the door in Australia.
To recruit the hand-full of Australian ex-pat controllers with Area ratings who've applied would have achieved runs-on-the-board for the manager in charge of recruiting (a handy thing to bandy around when people start asking what the delay is...) and would have filled at least three of the most critical gaps in staffing in Australia... because it's those groups that the controllers concerned either came from... or have the aptitude to go to... high traffic, high complexity Area sectors.
But then, it takes an intelligent person...

My manager has told me I'll have 2 OS controllers in August (this year). He's asked me where the best place is to put them.
BTW, I'm in a radar enroute/arrivals group.
I don't know exactly where these guys are from, but their experience is enough that they won't be going to the college, but all training will be in house here in Brissie.
That's what I've been told. But of course, watch this space!

Thanks Quokka, you seem to be the voice of reason amoungst the chaos and rumours.
With all the time AsA is taking though they're loosing possible recruits by the day. I know of a handfull that have just given up waiting and have made they're own plans for the future. It's also given some Providers time to put retension schemes/salary increases in place to stop the staff from leaving. By the time AsA get's back to us there may not be too many left to employ.
A couple of us die-hards are still waiting though.

Bok - agreed.
Bok,
I agree with you mate and Quokka has made some excellent points.
It has been over 7 months since the launch of the Global Search and many potential AsA controllers are now looking elsewhere.
After all it is a market place.
In addition, I suppose interested partners (wifes and girlfriends) and the families (kids) need to know what is happening.
Thats life!!

Isn't Joburg roughly the same time zone as UK? Haven't heard anything, neither has the one other that I know of who applied. No news hopefully good news though!

just to let the guys still waiting know that the offers to us and the Joburg applicant came though a week apart, his via email, and mine via telephone. No consistancy on time or method. Just sit tight, I'm sure the carrier pigeon or forked stick runner is enroute.

22 thanks for that. I just presume they contacted people who don't need much conversion training and may have sorted out the 1st course date for enrouters and contacted them. Hopefully us TMA guys will hear soon when they have established another course start date?
Obviously they want like experienced people together.
Hopefully they're not waiting to see who accepts before moving to people they are keeping in reserve.
