Aircraft Performance
As an ATC instructor, I'm aware of the need for trainees to be aware of aircraft performance characteristics. At present, we give general ideas about various types and the different ways each airline - indeed, pilot - my fly the aircraft, but the students have to learn mostly by observing once they get to OJT. If we had better data, we might be able to add realism to the simulator and better prepare students.
My question: Where is this type of information available?

Down at the bottom of Africa we are upgrading to Eurocat X radar system, which includes a simulator.
I know the IT boffins have loaded a lot of data relevant to aircraft performance for the sim and it is very real. Apparantly they got the info from Janes (!) - they have all the aircraft data on electronic file and our company bought it and it has been downloaded into the sim.
You might like to contact them - -dont ask me for an address, but i am sure you can get hold of it via their website.

Goldfish Jack is correct. ATNS have got good aircraft performance data within the Eurocat-X system, however the other point he made is also correct. The data had to be purchased from 'Janes'. As the information supplied is a commercial product, I doubt that they will supply it to anybody for free.

Hi all,
As highly regarded as the data from Janes is - you cannot simulate real world aircraft performances to a high degree of accuracy as there are just too many variables (weight, performance setting, pilot tendency, weather conditions). You will easily be able to point out which are good performers and which are poor performers from your experience, but as your students start to work with the aircraft, they will see what to expect from the types that they typically control. Hopefully your students show enthusiasm for their job, as a lot of information can be gleaned just by being interested in aircraft and paying attention to what you see everyday.
Goldfish Jack - I personally thought that the EurocatX was more of a "Management Tool", especially when the much hyped 'Maestro' eventually turns up. I hope they haven't distanced the controllers from doing just that, controlling...
