Hi Chrisf

Well at first I rang the radiology dept (advice from the mrs whos a Doc!!) and they said go via A&E which I thought was mad! But I went there on Mon and they laughed at me, ushered me to an X-ray place and then they said come back 9-5 to another X-ray suite!! So Im going down in the morning to see if I can get it done!!! Crazy!

When was your interview again? Mine was mid march and they said Jan 05 in interview, but sometime in 2005 in the success email! Like you said, I just want to get the medical passed and get a date in writing, then I can relax!!

yeah your right, would you rather fly than jump on a Virgin train for 5hrs??!!!

Sent the rest of the stuff off today as well!! Ive noticed a few people have there medical a week later than ours so hopefully we'll be at the top of the list regarding course dates!!!!!!

Hi again,
yep my interview was on the 23rd march me thinks in London... i got THE letter about 10 days later in april. Jan 05 to Oct 05 = sometime in 2005 i guess! lol. I think we just got in first and nicked the early medical appointments... but chances are we'll be on the same course, dependant on whether we do tower or radar!

I know its not any kinda interview, so u think shirt and trousers will suffice for the med??

I cant decide whether to drive and park in T2 short stay or to get the train..... train may be easier i guess... now, underground or overground? decisions decisions...

see you soon
Chris

I've got you all beat - my medical is next week! hee hee

Haven't received anything about the x-ray yet, going to dash home at lunch and see if there is a letter - I hope I can get it sorted before Thursday. Does it say the x-ray NEEDS to be there by your medical date or can it follow???

I was told October in my interview, but a friend was told March or June in his interview which was a couple of weeks after me...So I am hopeful for an earlier entry!

But what the hey...nearly there anyway eh?

How did you manage that!!!! !! Kidding - I guess someone must have cancelled! Yes, if you have emailed the medical dept. after you booked the medical, then they will send you the xray bumf as it were! You really do need the report done to take with you or before the day of the medical otherwise quote " your medical certificate may be delayed". Ive been having fun and games trying to get the xray sorted at my hospital, but hopefully can get it done and dusted this afternoon!!

Did you mean Oct 04 or Oct 05? I just want to pass the medical, get a date and get excited about starting!!!!

Good Luck with ya medical

I paid them a bribe Nah - I just pressed for an ASAP date...I have a decision to make about my existing work that could benefit from knowing everything is well in my future! So I am eager to get this step out of the way!

Letter wasn't at home when I rushed there at lunch, I will see if it's arrived when I get in this evening - our mail get's delivered so late! I will make calls tomorrow regardless in preparation! If it doesn't get done in time for Thursday then I am sure they will do as much as they can and as I dont smoke 120 a day, my chest will pass!

I was told Oct 05 like yourself and Chris. Letter said "sometime in 2005" but I think it might be March or June.

Good Luck with yours aswell

Hi,

I completed my medical at LL in May 2002, in fact just had to renew.

The chest x-ray had not arrived at the Heathrow centre by the time of my test, so I would not worry too much about long delays. Also make sure that if the x-ray is being sent from hospital to the doctor to chase it up - a copy was promised via my doctor but never arrived.

I waited for 2.5 hours at my local NHS hospital before they decided to tell me they could not offer me one as it was for 'private' reasons. In the end I went to the Nuffield in Plymouth, and was out in 15 mins. I took my letter from NATS and they billed the medical dept. directly.

Good luck.

Hi Guys,
I had my interview on May 18th in Glasgow and found out 8 days later.
With regards to getting down there, NATS told me yesterday that a £60 flight would be fine, as it would be a lot cheaper than the train from Manchester. I dont fancy driving all that way anyway!!

Hi,

Yeah i'm doing the same, getting a flight from Manchester straight into Heathrow, saves time and money!

Finally got the Xray done today, which is great they said they'll forward the report to the med centre within 2 days so fingers crossed thats all ok.

Looking forward to finishing uni, only a viva left to do!!!

I just had my X-ray yesterday. The doctor who examined it gave it to me rather than send it direct to NATS. As I'll be flying over, when I take the X-rays with me, will they be damaged in the scanners at security?

Scuzi,
In the letter they stated they only wanted the report not the xray anyways. (cuts costs i assume, and realistically, all they need is the "thimbs up") anyway, if you want to bring them with you, then it wont be a problem as the film will be already developed, so there should be no effect on them. Check with the security guys b4 tho just to make sure.

Yes you're right, they only need the actual Xray report!

So if we all pass the medical then, how long do you think it will be before we get allocated a course date - I cant wait!! I was thinking the other day that surely they wouldnt ask us all to go do a medical say 9-12 months before we start the course cos then we've would have to renew it again within 12 months? Im not sure, but Im very excited by it all!!!!

Its common for them to get you to do your medical and then delay for you another year. I had mine done in Oct 2002 and didn't start at the college until Oct 2003 so I would expect a lengthy delay still. Besides, the medical certificate is valid for two years so there wouldn't be any problem with starting a year after having it done.

I wouldn't worry about any costs incurred travelling or getting x-rays done etc as the company will in most cases pick up the tab. When I went for my medical I parked in terminal two car park for about 5 hours (I turned up far too early!!!) which cost around about £25 just for the parking and I had it paid for no problem. Only probelm was filling out the medical form when I didn't exactly read the question and happily ticked the "no" box in response to the gynaecological/pregnancy questions. Rather embarrassing considering I'm male. Still, i suppose they would've been more worried if I'd ticked yes!!

Good luck.

Hi fly bhoy,

Im just eager to start training really! I have had in my head March 2005 for a while and have tried to plan around that since I finish Univeristy next week and will have to do something between then and now! I think its the 'not knowing' exactly when the start date will be, even if it was later in 2005 then thats fine as long as its a definate date! I think we're now in the process since I have the medical in a few weeks so if I pass that then it shouldnt be too long before we all get a date! Oooo how exciting! How long did you wait after your medical before you got a start date fly bhoy?!!

Thanks for your time!

I got a letter thorugh as well. Looks like you lot snaffled up all the medical slots because the earliest convenient one for me is the end of July.

I got my first start date in about august 2002 (saying it would be july '03) which was about 2 months before they asked me to come for a medical.

I say my first start date because they then moved me and a load of my course mates back to January 2004 because of the new course structure. They then decided that they were going to run a full course in October 2003, rather than the reduced (guinea pig ) course they were initially going to do, which I managed to pester the HR department into putting me on.

What with the new course structure being brought in this July (I think!!!) its not exactly set in stone when people will be starting and what discipline they'll be doing, hence the uncertainty. I would treat any course date given just now with a certain degree of caution

Sorry to be a bit pessimistic but having been through the process I can say it can be extremely lengthy for some people and rather quicker for others. Who knows why?!? All I would say is don't be surprised if you keep getting bumped back and forward on the start date. Only advice I could give is to annoy the HR people as much as possible (in the nicest possible way obviously ) to try and be kept up to date and in the meantime get a part time job or something to keep you busy (and save up money in anticipation of the reduced salary!!! )

PM me if you want any more details.

Just had my X-ray this morning, painless procedure, was only at the hospital for 20 mins!

I need to go back this afternoon to pick it up though!

I've spoken to the medical branch, they only need to see the report nothing else.

They are a little mirrored! You can't see through them at least! Anyway, that is excatly where it is - left of the big blue security gates.

Had mine last Thursday, all went well until it came to colour perception. I may have a problem, I didn't know I had

My future career is hanging in the balance. The jury is still out.....
