Don't grt too worried if you haven't heard from them. I am positive you will hear soon because we're moving into a new year and that's generally where mass recruitment occurs. So at least you're not on hold in the middle of the year ;)

In the meantime I've done so much shopping overseas and literally need another suitcase (#noregrets). Wondering if we have to buy our own for the job so I can buy an appropriate suitcase suitable for the job and kill two birds with one stone. Hmmm...

The recruitment department are off until after new year. That's what they told me anyway.

With the suitcase, they have guidelines. This is what the look book says. Should be 'wheelie' style preferably hardcase e.g. Samsonite. No greater than 70 cm in height, black silver or grey in colour,

I'd assume they try to give everyone an equal opportunity. Experience that can transfer to the job matters a lot. As someone with a uni degree, they couldn't care less about it (which I was totally expecting anyway). What they want to know is if there is anything that might tie you down. There may sometimes be nights where you have to sty away from home so if you have a family that can be looked after when you're away/don't have a family that's good enough.

Im not sure yet if Im in the 27 Feb GS- my status still is reference check. Both been done last week so waiting for them to contact me. flywme, I got an email saying im in talent pool and my status is now under review
so gutted when at the AD they said our start date for training would be 27th Feb! Maybe they know there is another GS coming up or had too many already ahead of me.

I have now left my job and the Feb start date was perfect timing, now I dont know what Ill do in the meantime. I have a degree in a specialised area and so cant just get a job doing that for only a few months.

Medical in Auckland was
Eyesight (including colour vision), hearing, height and weight. Then the doctor reviewed the medical form that you complete (tick box questions about your medical history). A pretty quick process.
Separately the drug and alcohol test.

First there was a sideshow about cabin crew role, salary, hours ect. Then we had to get up & Introuce ourself to everyone- Name- current job or most recent - & a fun fact about yourself .

We then went onto a group activity.
& 1:1 interview.

1:1 interview questions:
-If you had to start the job tomorrow what do you think would be most challenging?

- Describe the role of a Cabin Crew?

- Why Virgin Australia?

- Can you describe a situation at work where you have been put under stress & how did you handle it?

- Tell me about a time you have gone above a beyond for a customer?

- Why the career change?

- What are you career goals for the long term?

- Do you have any questions for me?

That's it :) was very relaxed! Interview went for about 10 minutes! & told we would find out in 1 week if we are onto the online testing!

Thats good news. I would not be in a rush as I was also at the same AD as you and I'm waiting in the Talent Pool and done swimming competency. They have said that the February 28 GS is full already and so it could be months before another ground school. There are people I know in there who have been waiting since Sept 2016 for a GS. But the good news is once you are in the talent pool you are in once they have enough positions available to fill in Auckland base. Sydney base seem to have people who have been in the talent pool for a year so hopefully we will not have to wait that long. Its very frustrating

Heya JetSetter - Yeah it has happened quite a bit, if you look back in the forum there are a few people who were waiting many weeks for references, it seems to be pretty quick after that though! They probably just don't have any ground schools booked yet :)

Hello everyone! I just want to share with you that I graduated last friday and I did my first flight yesterday! It's so surreal! I'm so happy. I feel so lucky to be working with such a great company.

I had an update from VA yesterday to say they were just in the process of contacting my last reference. I have been on reference checks since the 3rd Jan.

I am new to the forum and currently on Reference Checks for Auckland Base, but living in Adelaide. I was wondering if anyone had confirmation for starting the ground school at the end of Feb?

As that date is fast approaching and having to relocate I'm not sure if I will be able to make that ground school if offered it! I attended recruitment day on the 7th December, and have been on reference checks for about 4 weeks now.

From what I remember they will send you an invitation for an assessment day after you have submitted your elevator pitch. This is obviously subject to them having assessment days scheduled for your base. From memory I had to wait about 2/3 weeks for an assessment day to be scheduled :) hope that helps. Good luck!

I did notice that they readvertised for AKL among others, so they must not have had many applications. They only readvertised for SYD regional crew, so I suspect there are a fair few they need to go through!

I just wanted to say what ever happens in the recruitment process (ie) successful or not.......and flight attending is your dream keep trying 😊 I had unsuccessfully attended a recruitment day with another airline a year or so ago and then the next time I was successful 😊. I actually love attending airline interviews they are so much fun 😊 And I know of a few cabin crew that have been unsuccessful first attempt . So dont lose hope whatever happens :D

One thing, It took me the first few attempts to realise my intro was going for about 15 seconds also lol.

Once id done swimming it was pretty smooth after that .I then went had my medical a couple of wees ago and start ground school in May i am so excited. Patiences is the key :ok:

I was exactly the same as you-so unsure what to say. I just said why I wanted to join Virgin, showed my enthusiasm and showed off my personality. They just want to see you and get a feel for your personality and the way you present yourself. Hope that helps :)

I applied 2 Oct last year for Auckland base and done everything except the medical. Ive been waiting in the talent pool since before Christmas. And I know there are people before me who didnt make the Feb GS as it was full, so they will probably be in the May one. Hopefully we will all be in the May class but they do have 4 Ground schools in a year so you will be in one of them. Its so hard putting your life on hold though. A good test of patience and determination as it will be worth it in the end.

I applied for a cabin crew position based in Melbourne on 30/03/2017. I am seeking answers to a few specific questions as well as any advice from previous experiences others may have had.
I have a personal passion for the aviation industry as my father was a pilot and I am also training to fly in my spare time (when I have the funds to pay for lesions.) Additionally I have 10 years experience in customer service mostly in management.

I applied for the position on 30/03/17, and submitted a short 30 second video the next day (after about 30 re-shoots). I am confident my resume, cover letter and video were perfectly presented for this role.

I am so excited to have a chance at this position as I have been applying for cabin crew roles as often as possible over the last few years. I attended a Qantas recruitment session last year and their process was quite fast.

Questions;
On average how long after applying online does Virgin respond with either the next stage or a decline?

Should I be concerned that despite the position application closure date was 31/03/17, that the role was relisted again on 04/03/17 with a new deadline of 30/04/17?

Where does Virgin typically hold their recruitment sessions? At a hotel/conference center? I live about an hour outside Melbourne and when I attended the Qantas recruitment session last year it was in a very awkward location.

Where and how long does the training for cabin crew roles usually run?

Does Virgin provide transport or an allowance for getting to and from the airport when a stay over is required?

Are their any other Melbourne based applicants or current Virgin employees that would be willing to communicate regarding region specific questions I have?

I would appreciate any details that anyone could provide regarding their experience, successful or not, with any Australian based cabin crew recruitment / working conditions. Happy to clarify or discuss with any/all as I am very excited and want to be as prepared as possible. I will continue sharing my experience throughout my recruitment journey for the benefit of all :-)

I uploaded my water competency last Friday 31st, and nothing so far. I was on a flight yesterday and was talking to the crew and after the water comp step is the medical, also they said Virgin only send you on a medical if they're wanting you to start employment with them. yes I found it a tad difficult i had to read the phrase twice, but it was a good brain teaser, I never answered all questions, i got up to 13. yes keep me updated please and best of luck :)

Hi, I'm currently doing mine at onlinersa.com.au - each state has different regulations, but there is a course on there that is recognised by all of the airlines. It's was $49 and takes about 4-5 hours to complete. (Don't need to do it all in one go, it saves where you are up to.) Just check the course number and make sure it's recognised by the airlines 😊

New here to the whole VA cabin crew applicant process, have read this thread over and over to try and figure out what to expect.

I applied on the 30th April for Adelaide base (which was the closing date) and was invited to complete the elevator pitch with 72 hours. I completed this on the 2nd of may and submitted it, but I did not get any confirmation of this submission, just a message saying 'thank you for sending your video' on the actual website page. Does this mean something went wrong or they didn't actually receive it?

Also, I went back on the careers site this morning and found out they have relisted the cabin crew job opportunity for Adelaide base with another 10 day window for more applicants, does this mean they're desperate for Adelaide crew, or applicants from the first job opening weren't good enough. I haven't had any emails apart from the one to invite me to the elevator pitch and I have my fingers crossed for a AD.

Considering that they have just released their second advertisement for Adelaide cabin crew recruitment in the past month I would say VA are getting a tad desperate, and waiting two years in a talent pool sounds a tad rediculous. Is it possible at all that a candidate can be lost in the system? :=

Thanks for that CaitlinMaree, been a week now and still nothing. From what I've read there is no way to tell when you will be emailed your outcome. Some people get responses within hours, some months ��. I just hope the fact that they readvertised for ADL crew means that they're desperate and want to get the process moving quickly! Can anybody tell me at what stage in the recruitment process the application status changes from "application acknowledgement" to something else??:8

After the recent ad went up I emailed them asking if they knew when the next ground school for ADL would be but they could only say that it's all dependant on the business requirements and thanking me for my patience.

I'm at the same stage for Melbs base, my assessment day was the 3rd April, shortly after did the online test, and then received the email saying they would be doing reference checks shortly. My references haven't been contacted yet, over a month since I got the reference check email. So unfortunately it can be a bit of a wait until water test/medical etc. Judging by other timelines on the forum it's not unusual for the reference check process to take 1 to 2 months. Hope this helps :)

Hello everyone. I went to the AD in SYD on 9th May. I received an invitation on 13th May to do the Online Comprehension Test, which was completed on the morning of 15th May. I received notification that I was through to Reference Check stage later on that day.

Is anyone else in the same situation as myself?

Can anyone shed any light on whether the Swimming Test follows immediately after Reference Check stage, and if so, does that meanTalent Pool comes next?

I completed my swim comp. this morning of, uploaded straight away and got a call a couple hours later for GS starting 4th July. Booked my medical for this Thursday! So exciting!!

Sh a shame you couldn't make it! I received my email for online testing about a week later, then references two days after that. They had 5 days to complete (Friday just gone) and then got my email for swim comp. on Saturday morning.

I completed that and uploaded it this morning, and then got the golden call for GS this afternoon with a start date of 4th July!!! I've already booked my medical lol cannot wait to start!

Sh a shame you couldn't make it! I received my email for online testing about a week later, then references two days after that. They had 5 days to complete (Friday just gone) and then got my email for swim comp. on Saturday morning.

Hi all,
Just completed my medical. Super easy but takes a while.
Started with the nurse who took height, weight, near and far sight test, colour vision panels, hearing test and BP. Then did the alcohol breath test and urine drug test.
Next saw the doctor who went through my history forms, reviewed sight and hearing tests and BP, then checked my balance, field vision, ROM etc. super easy :D
Should have results back by this afternoon, hopefully that means my contract will come through straight away and I can officially resign from my current job!

Also for those who were wondering about BNE base, I spoke to a lady the other day when they offered me MEL to see if there were any BNE bases, and she said that at the moment they don't have anything (forget the reason, sorry) but maybe in the next 6-12 months.

How exciting for you! When did you receive the call. My references have just been checked for Melbourne Base; but I have a feeling I won't be included in this Ground School as by the sounds they would have already made contact! My Assesment Day was early April. Congrats :)
