WWW - Would pursuing Air Berlin assets in Germany be more of a prize? Competition rules would probably stop EZY taking all of Monarchs at either Luton or Gatwick.

Germany makes more sense at the moment.

The owners and top Monarch management really need to be taken to account for this. Absolutely shameful. Not even any sign of an official media statement, so things are actually clearly not good at all.

It seems now the so called buy out / take over talj of last week perhaps fell through and instead winding up parts of the business will be the easiest way out for them?

The then so called "bidding" airlines will just purchase the valuable slots with no other financial impact of taking over a business?

I really hope i'm wrong, but this time even the MON staff and those on social media are taking a different tone.

Good Luck to all those amazing staff at this great airline.

Shame on you greybull and Monarch management!

Monarch going bust with thousands of employees, including aircrew, facing unemployment .In other news Ryanair cancelling hundreds of flights due to not having enough crew. Er,, can't someone pick up the phone, hit the conference button with Brummie on one line and Paddy on the other and say "How many do you have, and how many do you need?"

Google the story of Greybull and Comet and you'll probably predict where this is all going. Sadly.

Another 24 hour reprieve.

If the holiday business is only 5% of the traffic and losing (potentially) its licence is causing some potentially catastrophic PR, why don't they just exit that segment and concetrate on scheduled if they are really in good shape ?

renort 1st October 2017 14:52

The rot started the day Danny stood down, and staff unfortunately had to trust in the revolving door of management ****wits that followed him, none of whom actually had the ability to run an airline.

Instead they managed to drive it to the point of oblivion, while lining their own slimy pockets.

Sad.

Monarch now saying on social media that 'Flights are running as scheduled today' and 'further information will be communicated with customers'.

Quite a change from this time last year.

Management focus is better on exsting business rather than getting dragging into this.

Exactly my thoughts, last year they were much more positive on social media.

Not looking good for my November and June flights

piperboy you are charged with (and summarily found guilty of) writing a bright idea..........

daz211 1st October 2017 15:12

Unfortunately they can't really say anything else
But I guess in English it means all flights are fine today but after that we just can't say.

LAX_LHR 1st October 2017 15:13

I'm booked on a Monarch holiday in Jan.

So, even if it's just the holiday arm having issues, looks like I may need to look at other options....

I would say the staff know as much as the rest of us at the minute...

Daily Mail...

Monarch's CEO sent an internal email - seen by MailOnline - to staff to remind them to 're-assure our customers'.

Andrew Swaffield wrote: 'You may have seen press reports and social media speculation about us this morning, about our ATOL licence and imminent future.

'And passengers may be asking as well. If you're a pilot or crew, or in another customer-facing role, please re-assure our customers, if asked, that our flights are operating as normal, carrying Monarch customers as scheduled.

'Our ATOL licence - which is for packaged holidays only - is with the CAA. Flight only bookings do not require an ATOL licence, in line with other airlines.

'I know this is unsettling and we will try to end this uncertainty as soon as we can. Thank you for your continued professionalism - I know it hard in the circumstances, but I appreciate it very much.'

paperHanger 1st October 2017 15:18

Not that bright an idea ... Ryanair is not suffering from a shortage of pilots ... it is suffering from a shortage of pilots prepared to work for the amount of money and terms/conditions that Paddy is offering ... loads of pilots around, just none that want to work for him. Adding more pilots to the pile from Monarch will not change that situation.

I think that explains exactly why the staff aren’t given any real information.

Looks closer to the mark.

GingerC 1st October 2017 15:36

What proportion of Monarch's pilots are now trained on Boeing 737s, given the 737MAX orders due to start delivery next year? As Ryanair needs more pilots now, the arrival of a large group of A320-series only pilots wouldn't solve the immediate problem, though might help longer term, IF they accepted Ryanair terms.
