Flybe also operate a 195 from MAN (currently 'BEJ) on the CDG and MXP routes...
|
Pete
I would say EFL is to be flown using the 195. The 175 could do it easily but it wouldn't be able to take much traffic load. I would estimate the 175 would have to carry at least 8 tonnes of fuel each way which leaves about enough underload to carry about 55 pax (assuming alot more bags than usual). |
Some might say that flyBE have taken Stobart for a ride and deliberately taken a competitor out of the market by running down the SEN-DUB route and moving the NQY route to STN. Did they intend to move into LCY in a big way before they made their agreement with stobart? Just wondering....
|
more than likely your right, Flybe aren't going to have any presence at SEN when they have their operation at City, they have successfully killed off the competition

Online timetable ex-CWL is making interesting reading today.
Suggests some based a/c (or franchise/codeshare ops) from end August to EDI, GLA, DUS, FAO, MXP, MUC, CDG and others. I say others as literally as I was typing the online details disappeared and I just typed above the ones I could remember. Edit to say: someone else has captured the details and posted on the CWL page! |
flybe at CWL
The online schedule suggested the following (starting at the beginning of September)
Cardiff - Edinburgh: 13x weekly Cardiff - Dublin: 12x weekly Cardiff - Belfast City: 7x weekly (Operates with BHD based A/C) Cardiff - Paris CDG: 7x weekly Cardiff - Glasgow Intl.: 5x weekly Cardiff - Munich: 5x weekly Cardiff - Dusseldorf: 4x weekly Cardiff - Faro: 3x weekly Cardiff - Jersey: 3x weekly Cardiff - Milan Malpensa: 3x weekly Cardiff - Cork: 2x weekly A sample Monday in mid-September using the timings from the online timetable does suggest 2x based aircraft. A/C 1 operates Cardiff - Edinburgh Edinburgh - Cardiff Cardiff - Dusseldorf Dusseldorf -Cardiff Cardiff - Munich Munich - Cardiff Cardiff - Edinburgh Edinburgh -Cardiff A/C 2 operates Cardiff - Dublin Dublin - Cardiff Cardiff - Glasgow Intl. Glasgow Intl. - Cardiff Cardiff - Paris CDG Paris CDG - Cardiff Cardiff - Dublin Dublin - Cardiff A/C one does seem to be a jet (according to the flight times and turnaround times). A/C two is more difficult to tell but more than likely a jet (again looking at the flight times). It would also be strange to think they would open a new base with two different aircraft types suggesting two based jets are more likely. BHD will continue to be operated by a BHD based aircraft |
The online TT for all of the destinations in question seems to have been taken off line. Must be a bit embarrassing. ;)

Cardiff
Must be well supported by the tax payer.
As they have gone off line perhaps someone has turned up at Exeter with the white van and the straight jacket. Centre cities |

Any idea what the 2 aircraft for the new CWL base would be ? Considering one destination is FAO I would imagine one Dash 8 and one E175 or E195 ?
|
As the flight time to FAO is 2hrs30mins, it must be a jet, I expect it will be the E175 based as the E195s are suppose to be leaving and a Dash. I don't think Cityjet will be around for a lot longer. With regards to DUB EI stopped flying from BOH and SEN to be replaced by BE, maybe this is what will happen at CWL?
|
I wish that the Glasgow - Cardiff flight was live and bookable now as I could do with it on Wednesday 11th March instead of going via BHX and getting a train down to Cardiff - It would save a lot of hassle...
|
I can categorically say that with only two aircraft it will not be a base! Crew may night stop there to support the early departures but it will NOT be a base. I suspect (without seeing the exact times) the jet operation will be a W pattern from BHX or MAN.
|
The initial timetable is on the Cardiff thread.....some flight depart at 06:30 so it's got to be a base and local press is saying 2 based aircraft, all will be announced tomorrow.
|
It must be true if it is in the media then!
I hate to disappoint you, but it will only be a base if it can support a minimum of 4 aircraft. That's 4 aircraft of the same type! Based on that it will NOT be a base. Like I said there maybe crew night stopping there to support the early departures just like NQY. |
My guess would be 2 x based E195s. Fully underwritten by the Welsh government on a 3-5 year deal or something like that. That would be a good solution for Flybe given that they can't find any buyers for the full fleet.
|
:ugh:
The 195's will go! The last thing they are going to do is creat a new base just for the E195's! They have to go, trust me! |
I think you missed my point SET...no-one wants them. In that case why not use them if you can guarantee a return with someone else underwriting them? Seems an elegant, if not ideal, solution for a small part of the fleet. Anyway...let's see what tomorrow brings!

TartinTon
I really haven't missed the point. You will just have to take my word for it, it's in Flybe's interest that those 195's go ASAP! They will not set up a small base with a mixed fleet. That is exactly what they have moved away from with the restructuring last year! |
