I would imagine cork would be next from RE but probably not until later next year. They will want to test the DUB route first.

Ryanair offered very cheap fares on the route which increased demand hugely but I would hope that a small increase in average price would be accounted for in the reduction in capacity.

I would imagine Fridays and Sundays will be full to the rafters in the new year and would be surprised if they didnt go double daily, even with an ATR 42 on the second flight but lets not get ahead of ourselves.

Pipe dreams...

A very sensible comment.

Aer Arann

Aer Arann entered Dublin/Cardiff as Ryanair departed. Trippled the frequency and how did the numbers go?

Blackpool/Dublin with Aer Arann will be at a much reduced frequency and if there are 4 flights a week (assuming 72 seats per flt) thats potential passengers of 2304 and so with 100% load thats the height of it. Ryanair did easily 3.5 times as much per month on this route. October 8200!

So If Blackpool airport want to maintain the same level of revenue from this route, then the fees need to be 3 times more expensive to put them where they were before Ryanair axe the route.

We will see.

Is there a new service set for the Barcelona area?

MUFC_fan 10th December 2008 21:18

The route will be daily from the summer with I think a 72 seater aircraft.

This is 4464 seats over a 31 day month.
FR was 11718 seats over a 31 day month.

This is a big drop but the price increase in airline comparison will reduce demand accordingly and will still mean a high load factor on the route, especially at the weekend.

FR would not make £45,000 a month off of FR DUB passengers anyway, I would doubt, so really it is probably an increase. FR was never going to stick around.

The service is better than nothing and hopefully we will add to those soon. They still need to make it worth their while!

Ryanair pax figures

... ans do remember that Ryanair are pulling that many flights right now with zero notice that forecasting their pax delivery is impossible.

What I can tell ya is that, regardless of how many pax RYR promise or even deliver they don't add up to useful revenue for the airports when only operating a few flights a week.

Welcome to BLK AA - live long and prosper!

MartonMess 14th December 2008 11:10

friend reported on another forum 1st BLK-GVA flight, yesterday around 80 pax on a 1hr 45min. Excellent flight and crew as always.
Went off very quietly for a new service, too quietly according to him no journalists, no free champagne.
In a time when the airport needs all the good news it can get strange to me !
The airport used to have an MD called Roy Minnear, if ever they had a new service he used to get everbody, town cryer , pleasure beach show girls, but he did get mentioned in the press

fredtheanorak 14th December 2008 12:26

Yessir, BLK needs to shout lod every time it has some good news and make sure everyone knows about the GVA flights.:ok: Not to late on Monday if they get their fingers out and some photos from the spotters.:hmm:

Sounds about right for Blackpool , wish Jet 2 well with Geneva , however its a weekly flight ( short run ) for the die hard skiers I suspect - not the usual bucket and spade mob. Now if it had been planned to have a friday and sunday rotation in the equation as well then it may have sold as a city break ( weekend ) destination and tapped two markets :ugh:

davidjohnson6 14th December 2008 13:26

Rufus - are Geneva or surrounding towns really that much fun to visit in the winter ? I can't imagine that wandering around the old town or an outdoor cafe when it's cold are going to be that desirable...

Seen on a Geneva Tourist Site ......

"Cheap flights to Geneva to enjoy the amazing attractions this destination has to offer. Geneva is one of the most beautiful cities in Europe, located on the edge of the stunning Lake Geneva and surrounded by the Swiss Alps.
Geneva has so much to offer, so why not take a cheap flight there and experience the great artisan shopping districts or one of the hundred's of cafe's and restaurants offering the best in Swiss Cuisine. How about a stroll along the River Rhone or a more cultural experience with one of it's many Museums and Galleries. For a special treat, take in one of Geneva's musical or operatic spectaculars at The Grand Theatre."

Thought it might have been touted as a "city break" type location as well as a ski-ing destination - dont forget We can't all ski !!:)

davidjohnson6 14th December 2008 17:35

Rufus - Geneva make for an excellent city break, but only when it's warm ! The tourist board knows it can get people to come in summer without much effort - their job is to get people to spend a few nights in the city in quiet season as well. In February, the ski resorts should be full, but hotels in Geneva could always do with a higher room occupancy

I've never heard a tourist board employee say 'Don't come to spend money in our city in winter - it's a lousy time'.

Whether the public will happily spend their hard-earned cash on visiting at a lousy time is quite a different matter !

From Jet2`s own website

skiing, Snowboarding and Stunning Scenery!
The gateway to a skier's paradise: Geneva is the perfect location for access to the best resorts in the Swiss and French Alps. With breathtaking scenery, outstanding restaurants and world class entertainment Geneva is reputed as one of the most beautiful and cultural cities in Europe.

Jet2 seem to know why they are flying from Blackkpool !!:ok::ok:

GVA

rufus.t makes a good point, it was +5C and sunny down there today just wrap up warm. It's a beautiful city and well worth a visit. The skiers just transit to resort. Shame really, don't know what the're missing. If offered, it 'could' sell well as a weekend break at this time of year. Many 'other halves' would appreciate the shopping experience! All that said, it is much nicer in summer, truly stunning by the lake infact.

See Blackpool has a nice shiney new website, thorughly modern and updated, something airport should be proud of, seems to compare well to larger airport websites, similar in style to Exeters, and pretty well explained section on the airport fee too, all they need to do now, is for pax to be able to pay online, make life so much easier. notice too they removed the ryanair logo, so any news on a replacement girona flight, is it likely to be Jet2, if so were, only see it as a summer service, and would they fly into a Fr territory as girona seems to be? Would it be more likely for Ls to fly into Barcelona?

dada 17th December 2008 07:09

lovely. now my eyes aint what they used to be but i found a lot of the text quite hard to read- all wishy washy light colours. pass mi specks

Blackpool Good News

Hmm I think from what I heard the staff at the airport were busy with the first Aer Arann flight coming in on Saturday doing a charity santa run from Dublin - maybe thats why they didnt get the champagne out for the Geneva launch...Nice idea and great way to welcome AA to the airport....I think the airport did well in the current climate, wasting money on champagne and balloons would not have gone down well with the ADF detractors in the local area....you can't please all of the people all of the time...:D

MartonMess 17th December 2008 21:46

Well why didnt they get the press in for the Aer Arran flight instead.
At this time of year it would have been a feather in the cap for the airport. The local rag always is the first to print the doom & gloom about Squires Gate (couldnt get the recent job`s losses on faster) a nice bit of news would have done no harm either.:ok::ok:

MUFC_fan 17th December 2008 22:01

I think they will for the launch.

The flight earlier this week, I am guessing was to check everything i.e.) ground staff knew what to do quickly and efficiently etc. and also may have been dropping things like promotional goods off etc.

Skypartners 18th December 2008 09:22

Moist eyes

The AA flight was for underprivileged kids and was a lovely thing for all concerned.

10/10 to all for effort.

STK123 18th December 2008 09:55

The Blackpool Gazette were at the airport on Saturday with a photographer for the Aer Arann santa flight - not seen it in the paper yet thought - surprisingly - perhaps it was too positive a message! Lets hope they pop it in there soon!:ugh:
