Unfortunately that is the case that BLK and LPL have to live with |
MAN being the case.
Yes dwlpl, we know you think LPL is the centre of the Earth and everyone should fly from the there but we all have to face that MAN will always get the likes of LH, AF, KL etc. because it has the appeal and demand. If you were to say if LPL had these flights and not MAN they would still work you would probably be correct but we aren't going to see any of the maojrs moving from MAN in the near future and there won't be much expansion to either of the other two airports due to the economic slow down. I would love for all three airports to have New York with BA, Amsterdam with KLM, Paris with Air France etc. but we have to face it - it isn't going to happen. just curious mufc, how often do you fly per year? |
Ha Ha, paranoia on your part me thinks because I did not mention any airport but I thought you answered to this post (below) which is why I asked, given that just south of LPL on the south bank of the Mersey is one of the UK's largest oil refineries and to the east is a very large chemical complex.
Humberside and Tees Valley have links with The Netherlands because of the petrochemical industry. East Anglia (therefore Norwich) has strong historical connections. Other passengers in these regions take advantage of this to link into KLM/AF's world network; however with MAN down the road with a good service to AMS, I can't see why they would consider BLK. |
Stanlow etc
Good point, but it really isn't far from MAN (with KLM flights) - a short run down the M56.
It is annoying for BLK (and near me DSA) not to have any flights into a world hub |
neither does luton and that is handling 10 million passengers a year!
|
In the case of HUY, the AMS flight is not sustained by the petro chemical industry. Over 90% of the passengers are connecting - so yes there is some local demand, and some of that is from the chemical industry, however the service is sustained principally by business traffic from a variety of industries in the Humber area
Getting back to Blackpool, if it wants a service by a 'hub airline' such as KLM, it will need to prove it too has a strong base of business traffic (and some leisure traffic), and will not simply take passengers from existing MAN flights by the same airline |
Blackpool is often quoted as the most visited tourist attraction in the UK, so how come it cannot attract visitors by air ? I realise that a vast majority are already from the UK arriving by car with family buckets and spades. However surely the town could be promoted to Europeans looking for a break in the North West. Planeloads of Icelandics on drinking and shopping weekends as an example.
|
Its not familys with buckets and spades coming to blk , there goin to man/lpl on to the costas/FLorida. blk main visitors are the ones looking to down as much drink as poss, and make rite pr<@ks of themselves on the prom with their fake boobs, and thats just the old grannies:E:E
Dnt get me wrong , i live in blkpl , love the town, but hate what its become, although some things are gettin better, albeit slowly, If they wanted to make it a decent shopping centre, they should have built something like the trafford centre here, love it or hate it , it attracts the crowds... |
Thats even better, just think of the bar revenue on the flights, the Air Stewards could wear kiss me quick hats, serve cans of stella and do lap dancing in the aisles :)
|
Well said Take Off, just driven down the prom and there are more Hens & Stags than a wildlife sanctuary  . The council need to do something as well as the airport, to drag the foreign trade in. :ugh::ugh:
|
Haha Like the way your thinking MAN777.Now that could be a whole new airline, with that type of policy, what could it be callled????? HMMMM:E:E:ooh:
|
Wasnt there an airline in the USA with nice well endowed ladies, called Hooters ?
Maybe follow the same theme but not sure you would get the same class of staff, so maybe call it Booters ! |
Interesting ideas - all in all I think it a total shame that Blackpool Airport has gone the way it is going.
Blackpool Council got rid of it to raise funds - funds that they kept wrapped up. They have not spent it on road surfaces in or around the town. I suspect as many of us do, that they will use it to use it to fund persuasive planning applications which will ultimately mean that the area that the airport currently occupies will be be reduced thus preventing any further expansion. Where was the chap who lobbied the good points of Blackpool Airport - he soon dissappeared. To be replaced by someone who has not been in the press and therefore doesn't seem to be bothered ? Just my thoughts. |
The guy that used to advise about the positive points about Blackpool on this site has probably seen the light and left - think he used to work at the airport anyway ... :ok:
At this rate it wont be long until its back to mainly GA operating from the site. If the owners or local council dont start improving the facility soon they might as well give up , drove in there the other day and some clown had re-arranged the road access and it was like something out of the tower circus:D For those old enough to remember him maybe the airport should be renamed " Charlie Carolli International Airport " after the towns famous clown. Sad that this place had " some " potential but it looks like the bubble has burst , as for development on the site , until you see any bricks being laid or concrete put down nothings going to change. Unfortunately the type of tourist that Blackpool itself appeals to dont fly in en mass, I wouldn't think the majority of folks that fly in or out holiday locally ,they just use the "cheapish" fares to get from A TO B. |
The link from the airport website sums up how the operators think?
http://www.blackpoolinternational.co...php?article=74 They havnt even got the flights to worry about, turned away a Ryanair diversion the other Sunday because the firemen hadnt started work. The link talks about the firerig having a 767 body last time one of them was in Blackpool it belonged to some Sheik and that was back in the 80`s :ugh: |
I should imagine that since the Super casino is no more, any development that was in the planning is now filed in the 'bin'
|
what's more, you've only got to luk at the website for the very occasional jobs that come up and what a joke the money is - most people seem to be paid £6.581405 (honestly, that's the amount of decimal places they go to as if it'd make a scrap of difference). paid nuts, get munkeys. what's mr new bloke doing apart from giving out awards at local tourist doos all dresst up like a dogs dinner. JOKE
|
Yes agree about the money not being spent where it should, I.e the roads, some of the main roads in blackpool are in such a state that they are dangerous, multiple potholes and tarmac having just completely worn away, leaving an uneaven surface, not just dangerous to motorist but to cyclist pedistrians, motorbikes... Blackpool council did say they were going to use some of the money from the sale of the airport to repair the roads...all they seem to be doing is replacing traffic lights and making to b:mad:s ups of junctions... as for the airport, any planning permission has to go through fylde borough, as that side of squires gate is out of blackpool boundary, and they have said they want to limit the airport expansion, to lesson the effect on lytham st annes residents, and with the fact that over 1000+ house are to be built at the back of the airport on the moss land , will surely have a negative affect too, to any expansion if any the airport will likely see,
Appologies for rant , but gettin annoyed that the suspension on me new car being b:mad:red by the numpties spending £750 a roll last year on special wall paper for the town hall.... anybody know what pax numbers are forcast for this year? and compared to this time last year , hows it doing this year so far? Interesting to see website still predicting 1 mil pax for 2007:{ |
Fly Blackpool
As my previous post, until the management are changed, you will be lucky to get more than a bucket and spade from Blackpool Int Airport :ugh:
|
The FR diversion was most probably turned away due to capacity issues.
The Fire Training Facility is not only a superb example, covering nearly all types, it is also a means of income by way of offering courses to third party trainees/recurrent training. That means extra revenue! By the way, speaking as one of the aircrew that these magnificent staff will try to rescue should the worst imaginable scenario ever happen at BLK, I'm very pleased to know that my local fire team have the very best facilities on hand with which to train. Now compare that with the destinations a certain Irish low cost operator visits. Would Ian Shoesmith like to follow that up? |
