Languishing in page 4......

It appears a rather important cog in the Air Traffic machine is working his notice, runway as bad as ever

Just as we thought 28/10 was about to subside into oblivion, Stats R' Us brings us some very impressive (sustainable??) figures for last month. BB are holding off on digging the footings for Squires Gate Towers, the future's bright, the future's BL(ac)K!!

Completely meaningless judgement without yield information (!) That's pprune 1.01 !

No flights to SSH planned that I know of. Do not think the runway at Blackpool is long enough for direct flights.

MUFC_fan 25th September 2008 19:32

To BLACKPOOL AIRPORT it makes no difference whether Je2 are charging £100 a ticket or 20p a ticket!

Ernest Lanc's 25th September 2008 22:23

Thank's for the Blackpool stats MUFC_fan.

So much for an economic crisis.....
Far point - I am goint to Malaga on October 26 for a week, 3rd time this year a flight from Blackpool.

I am not put off yet. but was not that chuffed about the £56 fuel surcharge I got at the end of my booking

Pleased to see the Ibiza route holding it's own, not sure how the Geneva route will go down from Blackpool though.

MartonMess 7th October 2008 18:56

Here`s one to wake Doom & Floom Dada up and get us from page four. The local paper tonight , headlines "Airport Job cuts" the summer temp staff not having their contracts renewed and the full timers having to reapply for their jobs, and might not getting their old job back (what will a refueller do in customer service Gazette?).
Anyway is this the credit crunch or BB :suspect::suspect: starting the ball rolling to Blackpool joining St-Annes as a mass housing estate (personally I hope not as ive three flights booked on Jet2 ;) next year).

Job shock at Blackpool airport - Blackpool Today

apparently the only place doing well in blackpool despite the credit crunch is the zoo. perhaps they could breed a few more monkeys and train them up as part of the streamlining. personally i'd think theyd be pritty good at security - would probably give you a real good frisk.

Ernest Lanc's 8th October 2008 19:48

I think it's obvious that jobs had to go during the winter.

With no flights to Malaga, Murcia, Belfast,Ibiza and Majorca - what else can we expect.

The fact that tickets are on sale for 2009 should mean that Blackpool will be back to normal come the spring summer 2009.

Well the Prague and Amsterdam hardly took off, and they are not always popular at other airports either. If London Stansted had been that popular, then it would have been in profit and Ryanair would not have axed it.

So we lost the Prague and Amsterdam, and gained Ibiza and Geneva along with Menorca.

This IMO has to be expected because Blackpool is not a package holiday airport, so the sun spots will always do better with people with holiday homes flying from Blackpool.

I use Blackpool airport 3 or 4 times a year, and would never have gone to Eastern Europe - Malaga and Palma are my favourite destinations.

And how anyone can be shocked when temporary staff are laid of is beyond me, what matters is that Jet 2 are taking bookings for 2009.

Stop worrying, what makes you think people could afford to buy houses, and the banks have no cash for mortgages.

Blackpool Airport has to be a safer bet than mass housing developments for the foreseeable future at least:ok:.

I understand what you're trying to say, but you have somewhat contradicted yourself Ernest. Package/self-tailored (package) on t'internet, seat only on a charter/Loco. Destination = 'the sun spots' be it in your holiday home, hotel or apartment (all the same really).

Prague and Amsterdam were never going to work from the UK's hen/stag do capital....I still think Geneva is a bit upmarket (how many ski shops are there in BLK?)

Fair point B'Moss. I could have made my point much clearer.

I agree over Prague and Amsterdam. I never believed those routes would work from Blackpool. Most people who I know at least book to such destinations through high street travel agents.

Good point over Geneva, but I come from 28 miles from Blackpool and still call it my local airport. But even taking the full catchment area - I can't see the Geneva route surviving.

Are the Newmarket holiday firm still flying from Blackpool in May and September/October? - I would love to know their pax numbers.

Well I for one am flying from Blackpool on the 26th of October to Malaga, and I believe I am catching the last flight this year home from Malaga on the 2nd November.
Like you I will be using Blackpool 3 times next year - Palma/Gerona/Malaga in 2009, so I hope my optimism is well founded:D.

take-off 10th October 2008 10:20

Must surely be time for an all year round malaga, and prague and amsterdam were run thru winter season, more of a short break weekend thing , as was faro when jet2 moved in run thru their first winter, Blk to jet 2 is surley justa summer base, BB must surley be looking at the land value in terms of building wise,As and when the housing market recovers, should buisness still be slow down there, it will only be a matter of time, what happend to the plans by city hopper to build 80 houses on airport land? same with the shiney new private terminal that was to be built, been a few months now since BB aquired the airport , but things have been very quiet from them in terms of expansion, or redevolopment, will the runway and the other apron works still be carried out as planned or have they been shelved too, although interesting to see in local paper advert for fire fighters for airport at same time on the front page people get finished by them, :ugh::ugh:

Still thinking positively hopefully winter 09/10 will bring some new winter routes, and and plenty of adverts around for next summer from blk, so fingers crossed, onwards and upwards.

Havent posted for a while didnt want to sound like a doom mongerer, hope everyone down at blk finds new jobs, best of luck to you guys, always been great passing thru 'our local':ok::ok::ok:

silverhawk 11th October 2008 07:01

The drains are to be fixed. They are the responsibility of the local council, not the airport owners.

As of now, the work to improve and repair the apron is underway.

The runway improvements are scheduled for this winter

Deaf Tortoise 11th October 2008 15:29

"The runway improvements are scheduled for this winter"

I do hope that is correct. There was much rumour about it last Winter, and all came to naught.
This was probably due to the incubating plans for a sell-off to B.B.
Now that the concrete and tarmacMeisters have ownership of the place, what will be the next excuse?
If it does work out, we will all be delighted. A 737 sized parallel taxiway to avoid scuffing the tyres to death on 180 turnarounds would be a fine thing too...

rufus.t.firefly 11th October 2008 19:03

Notice the improvements to the airport have started with the installation of porta loos outside the main terminal for the pax .......... not really ....some birk has damaged the sewer pipes I heard :D...... all good stuff adding to the PR image of the airport !!! :ok:

Deaf Tortoise 11th October 2008 19:44

Indeed...

The smell yesterday whilst they were pumping out the drains in front of the terminal was truly awesome.

At least they are working on it.

Gosh - I am flying from here on the 26th, if it takes as long to fix the drains as it has done to fix the apron - then I am in for a smelly time, in Junes and next July also:eek:.
Let's hope the news from silverhawk extends to the runway as well as the apron, then we will know there is some commitment to BIAP.

Didn't go unnoticed whilst dropping Mrs Moss off for the PMI Thu evening. Water pi**ing all over the road crossing to departures. Chap sat atop whatever that contraption they've erected outside the terminal is, shouting to his mate (obviously incharge of water pumping) 'best hose fireman Sam could come up with'. It was a fire hose and it did have more holes than a sieve! It does nothing for the image, Fireman Sam, Postman Pat (I've seen him there, honestly) and the whole place is run by Bob the Builder..............

Crying shame, but now BIA have a whole lot of other issues on which they can blame their follies.
