I saw it today from Saltcoats & Ardrossan. I thought it looked too big to be one of Ryanair's aircraft.

VickersVicount 29th March 2013 23:40

If that rumour is true :) said tour operator launched using Titan from GLA and EDI in January and were seen operating just yesterday !

billyg 30th March 2013 03:11

Yes VV ,and using the larger 767 too. Saw it arriving twice at Glasgow yesterday.

ScotsSLF 30th March 2013 07:07

The Titan 767 and a 757 (Titan crew) are being used by BA on LHR shuttle services to NCL and GLA. I was on G-POWD on Friday into GLA. Nice aircraft and good cabin crew.

silverstreak 30th March 2013 13:25

Titan also operating ad-hoc for BA to EDI with both B767 and B737... (BA B767s reliability shocking recently)

Prestwick need a major investor. Ideal location, and more than capable for cargo ops, parting out of aircraft or heavy maintenance base.

As much as I would like to see PIK begin to flourish with new airlines, offering new routes, its not going to happen with BAA at GLA now competing head on for the glory with the new owners at EDI.

Skipness One Echo 30th March 2013 13:56

Perhaps time to make BA an offer? They have a temporary use of the old Polar hangar and the BA Glasgow hangar is as old as the airport itself.

VickersVicount 30th March 2013 14:00

Neither of the GLA or temp PIK BA facilities are perfect now and so new build is what is planned, and this is likely to form part of future developments at GLA. The Polar hanger lease will lapse as soon as the last Airbus goes through.

ScotsSLF 30th March 2013 19:46

And when's that Vickers?

Interesting that the new Bristow's SAR unit will be housed in a new hanger and offices at PIK as opposed to just moving into the present RNAS site. Will the RN remain at PIK or will the present hangers and OPs block be mothballed just the like the main base is at present?

The Hypnoboon 30th March 2013 19:58

According to local news, HMS Gannet is to be retained as a submarine hunting base. Merlin MK1 helicopter's to be based.

But South of Scotland MSP Chic Brodie insists the move is “madness”.
He hit out: “Prestwick is one of two airports in the UK that is a target for terrorists. Are civillian air traffic controllers supposed to deal with this?”
What's this cretin on about?

this is likely to form part of future developments at GLA.
Slightly off topic but I heard St Athan with a view to merging with BAMC. This is why PIK might have a chance with a purpose built facility.

The Hypnoboon 31st March 2013 07:52

I think he's banging on about the closure of military ATC at the Prestwick centre. But as usual with a politician, being a tad over the top and melodramatic...

DC-10-COL 4th April 2013 15:29

This MSP sounds like a bit of a d*ck! Spouting facts and figures without actually taking them in properly! :ugh: :=

He should be supporting ANY activity in Scotland`s airports, especially one that needs support! MSP for South Scotland indeed..........

AtomKraft 4th April 2013 15:49

What I think he meant was 'Prestwick is one of only two airfields in the UK which are nominated to deal with hijacks and terrorist incidents'.

The other is Stansted.

ie, if you get hijacked, or there is a terrorist situation onboard, ATC will try and send you to PIK or STN.

They've thought about where to park you and how to deal with various incidents particularly thoroughly at these two airports.

Skipness One Echo 4th April 2013 16:18

So hang on, Scottish Mil is closing, (RAF Prestwick). Any hijack would be working Scottish ATC at Prestwick on civil airways. They don't pass a hijacked airliner onto UHF and RAF control. (Do they use VHF Military for that sort of thing?)
It's not at all clear how the closure of Scottish Military ATC consolidating at Swanwick is related to PIK's status as diversionary airfield of choice for hijacks.

Or am I confused. It's happening a lot nowadays :( *totters precariously

I see the advertising guru's at Prestwick have gone all out.

Ryanair Miss June Launches Prestwick Biggest - Ever Summer Schedule | Glasgow Prestwick Airport

Lovely lady, nice planes but dodgy beach towels attempting to hide rusty railings :ugh:

OntimeexceptACARS 12th April 2013 19:53

Think the towels are there to stop that overloaded fake bake from corroding what's left of the old speccy's fence! Jeez she is orange!

The Hypnoboon 12th April 2013 19:54

Reported in the print edition of the local paper that a group of Canadian and American airport operators are looking at and currently undertaking Due Dilligance over Prestwick. Denied by Infratil though. Apologies I can't find a link for it online.

DC-10-COL 13th April 2013 21:45

Been searching like mad, can`t find anything!

VickersVicount 13th April 2013 21:54

...think there lie-eth the answer...

The Hypnoboon 14th April 2013 00:38

It was a tiny article on page 2 of the paper. I think I may have made it sound more important than it actually was. Apologies.
