I can almost understand why PIK may nit be geared up to accept guide dogs. It's very quiet and this sort of situation probably doesn't come up much. I don't think it's right that they don't have the facilities, but almost understandable.

I am however very surprised to see Edinburgh on their list of non-accpeted routes for guide dogs. If EDI is not set up to accept guide dogs then that is quite simply disgusting.

He claims Ryanair were happy to take him. It's unacceptable in this day and age not to have the infrastructure to deal with this. That's why so many lifts and ramps are being installed in more trying situations. The point seems to be that it is utterly avoidable and hence inexcusable. Any well managed facility would have seen this one coming and put in a work around or a fix.

With a total of 25 low fare routes from Glasgow Prestwick this summer
Which route's been dropped then? I make 26 down for next year?

ACE, AGP, ALC, BCN, BGY, BVA, BZG, CCF, CFU, CHQ, CIA, DUB, FAO, FUE, GRO, IBZ, LDY, LPA, MJV, MLA, PMI, PSA, REU, RIX, TFS, WRO

We've seen FORTY FIVE routes from Ryanair over the years!

Aftershock 13th December 2011 15:45

I think GRO is dropped and replaced with BCN.

CabinCrewe 13th December 2011 15:49

BCN had indeed replaced GRO

smith 13th December 2011 17:02

So has STN been dropped permanently? I thought it was just being dropped for winter! :{

CabinCrewe 13th December 2011 17:31

STN is a permanent drop

I've been throuh Prestwick a number of times since November, the whole terminal is freezing, with staff having to wear jackets and scarves!

Initially I was advised that the heating was faulty, however 3 months on and it is still isn't working.

Do you think they have turned it off on purpose due to the low number of passengers?

Aero Mad 18th January 2012 09:47

I think a lack of heating is probably something which a passenger discovers when they enter the terminal, rather than before they book their flight. If they have turned it off on purpose, it is probably to save money... I live without central heating and don't have too many problems so I can see why with their passenger figures.

Enterprise Zone status

I heard today that Enterprise status has been granted to four areas in Scotland with Prestwick being designated as the Aerospace Enterprise zone. Not seen any official press releases - anyone got any info?

Has been since 2000 AFAIK!

ScotsSLF 18th January 2012 19:32

Was the 2000 status not Freeport status which never worked as it was not really supported and wasn't specifically focused on Aerospace? There's a bit on the airports website.

At the risk of starting the airport name debate again I stumbled upon this BOAC timetable from the 50s on another forum.

http://www.timetableimages.com/ttima...58/ba58-03.jpg

Didn't realise the present Glasgow Prestwick name had been around for so long.

Skipness One Echo 19th January 2012 21:09

All Northwest Orient and Air Canada timetables from the 1980s had Prestwick listed under 'G' as Glasgow (Prestwick), and just as an aside, London (Gatwick) was the only other one like this.

crewmeal 20th January 2012 05:42

Looks like an old British Railways timetable from the 50's 60's. Interesting reading though.
