Well, the rumours I've heard are mainly to do with BAe Regional Aircraft being up for sale too. The sensible(ish) rumours of "Interested" parties include Xian Aircraft Manufacturing, Falko and Woodward.
The more outlandish I've heard are: Antonov to purchase it as a western factory for AN-148's, Ryanair buying the north apron to store aircraft and BA turning Prestwick into an engineering hub!

However, I've heard nothing concrete about a new owner for the airport, it's all wild speculation at the moment.

On a sort of related note, a few years back someone told me that Infratil or Prestwick management had bought the Driving range with a view to expansion, can anyone confirm or deny this?

I understand that to be true. It's mentioned in minutes of the Consultative Committee (here) and in this Infratil report.

They applied for and got planning permission to turn the old golf range into car parking only

driving range

Wish the driving range was still there, have to go to Irvine now if I want to practice. Nothing has ever been done there since the DR closed down, shame :(

Was anything happening at PIK today? All roads around the airport were blocked by police about 4pm.

JSCL 6th May 2012 19:48

An FR flight I think returned to PIK around that time? (I think - didn't look too much in to it).

Developments????

Heard a rumour that Prestwick may be looking to sell the land where the second runway is, (Friends dad works for council planning) for housing development????? and their might be a possible buyer, but no one is saying who

toys out the pram @ EDI

Reported in The Scotsman and The Herald this morning that if Ryanair don't get their way at Edinburgh then they will shift a "modest" amount of routes (back) to Prestwick.

ScotsSLF 22nd May 2012 22:02

Regards the selling off of 21/03 this was proposed a few years ago by Infratil but everything went quiet after the Consultative Committee (I think) challenged this. Not sure of the details but hopefully this is not a case of asset stripping by Infratil prior to a sale.

Skipness One Echo 22nd May 2012 22:06

BAA did this as part of the Freeport gig in the 1980s. No 21/03 would mean Ryanair not being able to operate on certain winter days when the wind howls in.

NorthSouth 23rd May 2012 07:02

They could always divert to Edinburgh :)

PIK3141 23rd May 2012 19:09

Or the Edinburgh flights could divert to Prestwick as one has just done.

One took off on 21 the other day there in CAVOK with no wind

PIK Somme

There's an awful lot of barbed wire being put up!!?

Skipness One Echo 7th July 2012 17:23

Do you mean the (illegal?) razor wire left over from 2005 and the G8 or are they having a security spasm elsewhere?

Leatherman 7th July 2012 17:37

spasm

All along the tops/ eaves of the warehouses and buildings on the alpha side. i.e. the western side.
Big curly whirly barbed wire works in progress.

TERMINAL

Other news is that the travel agent Barrhead has closed the office in the terminal and gone to Kyle Centre.
I don't think I ever saw one customer sitting in there!

ara01jbb 8th July 2012 08:15

I did always wonder who exactly travelled to an airport in order to book their holiday...
