Fair comment but if I was an Infratil shareholder, I would be most unhappy if I heard that my dividend was going towards litigation, because nobody had checked with the CAA or the company lawyers before going down this road! |
Prestwick website and reality.
As we know, the Prestwick airport website has undergone a serious revamp. However I was looking at the route map and it shows flights to Budapest, Gothenburg and Jersey (which was stated by a previous poster had been lost). I know the old website was not that great for information but after undergoing a revamp you would think they would have deleted routes that were not available.
This leads to couple theories 1) The flights are running but not announced by the respective airlines, thus giving competitors a sneak preview and potentially getting the airport into trouble. 2) Prestwicks IT department is really shoddy and can't be bothered to update the system. So what is going on? Are the flights running? Is the IT department crap? A bit of both? |
ground handling
Skipness- Off Watch has the ground handling thing more or less spot on. There's probably some semantics in the legislation that a reasonably good lawyer would latch on to, but the general principle is that if you're an airport over 2m pax/year you cannot 'unreasonably refuse' a groundhandling application, and if you're below 2m its at the airport operator's discretion.
In the context of EU legislation, tendering contracts is legal so long as the process and detail is transparent, although ethically/legally you might question the validity of an open tender between three operators in which one of them (internal incumbent) is basically guaranteed to win. In reference to most EU legislation, the CAA as the appointed watchdog for the UK generally take a non-intrusive approach, so they wouldn't launch an investigation unless there was a complaint. And with PIK now below 2m pax the complaint would more or less fall flat. Bigger issue for PIK may well be ACD when that comes in to force on 1 April 2011. CAA emerging thinking is that it has to be applied following the next consultation cycle which would mean it would be in effect in practice from 1 Jan 2012. Comparing statutory account detail to published tariffs will make for intereting reading. |

Come on apron alpha, what new routes are we doing in the Summer?!
|
summer 11 pretty much as summer 10, a few xtra flights 2 sunshine destinations. Nothing new decision on greer or ocean sky due next week
|
so does anyone have any news over who is going Greer or Ocean Sky?
|
Well, come on someone!
Is it bye bye OceanSky, or Greer crying into their beer... Iam sure it wont be long till they are being begged to return! |
Couldnt agree more with the last post the only people who have attempted to build our transit buisness up especially the US military if PIK think they wont leave elsewhere with their contacts then they are deluded.
|
I would guess that none of them will leave anyway and its just a wild rumour. Can't see PIK going down that road at all
|
honest man - why would the US military need to move away ? - either of the FBO's could handle them on their own.....
aftershock - why split the profit between 3 if you can do it with 2 ?...... ND |
I agree ND that makes perfect sense, but just don't think PIK would have guts to show Greer or Ocean Sky the door!
|
If they kick the larger firm, Ocean Sky, who have FBOs internationally, that could give PIK a bad name across the world as they would have everyone at Ocean Sky making sure their contacts and prospects basically went elsewhere.
Kick out Greer and you destroy a Hell of a lot of hard work and local know how with excellent industry contacts. |

Ryanair don't want Jet 2 at Glasgow. They have increased the same routes that Jet 2 are operating.
Summer 2011: Tenerife South - daily Faro - daily Alicante daiily - 2 on Saturday Palma - daily - 2 on Monday and Friday |

There is still a lack of supply post Globespan, goes the theory anyway, so headline figures aside for travelling off peak, there is plenty of room for both.
Ryanair know this, Jet2 know this. Flying Weegies to the Costas is hardly a Battle Royale. |

This is going to be an interesting battle then. For example, Jet 2 are quoting fares to Alicante next April for as low as £9.99, including a 22kg baggage allowance & pre-allocated seat. I wonder how Ryanair are going to match that ? Flying Weegies to the Costas is hardly a Battle Royale Probably true - the battles begin later in the clubs, depending on which football club tops the neds are holidaying in! There may be room but why didn't Ryanair react to it last year. It's only because Jet2 announced there Glasgow base. Ryanair flights from Glasgow Prestwick are hardly the cheapest on their network. They must be raking it in on these routes from PIK. |
