Ryanair once advertised Norway as a "Sun Destination"
I wouldnt be surprised if SNN-SCOTLAND flights would go to Prestwick. It could be used as an action of devotion to Prestwick. (Although everyone knows FR dont devote to anywhere, if Dublin added 50% to their landing fees tomorrow then Im sure it would scale back its operations there, despite Dublin being ryanairs HQ |
You have seen the relative average summer sunshine figures for Glasgow / Prestwick versus Tromso in the North or Norway?
Glasgow & Prestwick [April, May, June, July, August, September] 134.5 180.1 158.9 154.3 146.8 114.9 Tromso [Same Months] 160 218 221 205 167 92 Seems a bit more realistic to me to call northern Norway a Sun Destination than Prestwick............... |
summer 2015?
Has anyone seen a summer program for Prestwick? Is it going to continue to be just one, two or 3 rotations per day (passenger flights) or will it get busier ?
bb |
The schedule is loaded for a few months now; 3 based aircraft, and 7 - 8 flights per day in total.
|
..... for now ;)
|
..... for now The Ryanair schedule will likely run as planned at PIK over the summer with the clear threat to move to GLA lock, stock and barrel in October depending on terms offered by the new owners. There's little point in shifting before then as I suspect you well know. |

You can squat diddly-off then... ! My comments regardless of length are as entitled as your "humble" patronising posts. No one likes a self styled big personality.

Dont be put off by know-it-all, its all been highlighted before.... ! :ok: You post away. The attention seekers always feel the need to reply.... ;)
There will be changes in the PIK base (and GLA) before October. |
There will be changes in the PIK base (and GLA) before October. I disagree sometimes with S1E but I would tend to agree with him here in that I would expect the GLA and PIK S15 schedules to operate pretty much as announced, although you could certainly argue all bets are off for next winter! |
Been quiet on all fronts recently over here at PIK but........
Nicola Sturgeon 'cover-up' over Prestwick Airport cost - Telegraph Bill to keep Prestwick Airport running will hit £40m | Travel News | Travel | Daily Express Purchase of Prestwick Airport will pay off, say auditors | Public Finance ? official CIPFA magazine Scottish government 'vindicated' over Prestwick airport - www.travelweekly.co.uk anyone got anything positive on increased traffic news?? |
I'm sure the flying clubs are looking forward to a busy summer...:ok:

I was watching a Ryanair aircraft this morning at 10. It went upto 41,000 feet and flew in a circular route while changing altitude from 12,000 feet upto 28,000 feet, the aircraft also reached a peak speed of 600mph.
What was the reason for this commotion? |
Sounds like they were checking the pressurisation system after maintenance. It is their maintenance base after all.
|
PRESTWICK
Probably a post maintenance test flight of some kind.
|
Yes, that is definitely a maintenance flight. Very common at Prestwick following a big maintenance check in the Ryanair hangars there.

Re Prestwick return to profitability. Being based down South I may have missed something but all I can see is that since the consultant reported, Ryanair has moved a big chunk of its operation to Glasgow and the chances of succeeding as a spaceport, which were, to be polite, slim in the first place, are now even slimmer. How is it that Nicola S can say that it will be returned to profitability and then sold? this is a genuine question - have I missed something?
|
No Mr Wombat, you are right to be sceptical. The Audit Scotland report is already out of date. Its main conclusion (that the Government loan is likely to be repaid) was based on an assumption that passenger traffic would recover. However, things have in fact gone backwards rather quickly.
Inexcusably, the report did not look at any scenarios involving a further decline in traffic, beyond stating that the airport is not viable without passenger traffic. This last statement is interesting, as there has been some suggestion (including on this forum) that PIK might be able to keep going on the basis of its non-pax activities. |
I see that work has started on the new base for the new SAR operation. There was a rumour a while back that the present HMS Gannet facility whilst losing the SAR function was to welcome back the anti submarine helicopters. Is this still a rumour or reality? With the local MP vociferously claiming that Russian subs are entering the Clyde at an alarming frequency it makes you wonder why the squadron was moved down south in the first place? Then again does anyone believe what said MP ever says?

Where is the Beech aircraft coming from? I check fr24 and find "BRO31" frequently over Donegal..
